Title: Colville Area Deer Numbers
Post by: 270Shooter on November 17, 2008, 03:44:43 PM
Are the deer numbers way down in the Colville area this year? I know it was bad weather and a full moon but i still thought i would see more than 5 deer in 2 days. This was my first time ever doing the late hunt. Were my expectations too high or are the deer numbers way down?

270Shooter - you and I have been hitting some of the same posts so I'm sure you know my experience over the last eight days, but I don't think the numbers are down. The guys I hunt with there have been going for 25+ years and they tell me the numbers are still good. In fact, I have been going  there since '99 and I saw just as much sign this year as any and more than some years. Problem is you can't tag a deer scrape.

I really think that the weather put a big kink in things and the rut seems to be a little later than I have seen in the past. The bucks need to be dumb and in love to catch them cruising.

Yeah i figured the rut would be in full swing. But maybe i should have gone the weekend earlier because of the full moon. Either way I did not see a single rub in the area, although i did come across a buck scrape. Was just hunting in a bad spot. Becaause it looked like good deer country.
