Title: tasco trail cam help?
Post by: viva_che1363 on February 13, 2014, 09:55:53 PM
today i bought this trail cam from someone one craigslist. l'ive looked at the trouble shooting stuff in the manual but nothing shows up for this problem. it turns on but only to this on the screen. i feel like i got swindled on this "deal". i wish i could trust peoples word, but that seems to be less and less likley as time goes on.

That's normal. Hold down the menu button and then you will be able to set everything that needs set, like the time and date. When you're done with that hold the menu buttion down again until those little lines show up again and it's ready to take pictures.

I like the Tascos. They work great for the money.

ill see if i can figure it out over the weekend. in the meantime ill admit to buying a used cam from craigslist. would it be bad form to call the seller and give them a piece if my mind?

bobcat seems to think its normal..... so id probably make sure its junk before you flip the guy $*&^               which just reminded me.  i still need to send my eyecon storm back to the company with a bottle of complimentary rectal lubricant.

I know that's normal. They are a little tricky to figure out at first. But like I said, you just need to hold that menu button down and after a couple seconds the date will come up. Set the year, month, and date. Then it will go to time which is in 24 hour format, so no AM or PM. then you will select either low or high resolution (always use high). That's about it. It will take a picture about every 15 seconds when there's an animal in front of it.

I like them for a $40 camera. I've had three but one got stolen, another was destroyed by a bear, and my third was bad from the beginning. It fogged up so I sent it back to Bushnell and they sent me the $100 Tasco camera.

sounds like youve had some bad luck.  try putting them up about 12 feet or so and covering then with camo tape (tape to avoid theft not bears).  i got around 50 bears on cam last summer and only one young little *censored* bear that thought it was worth it to climb the tree to chew my cams.  had em chewed on a regular basis tho when i had em reachable from ground

I feel fortunate to have only lost one to a bear. I do want to try setting them higher but I need some of those screw in mounts first.

id go with the slate river mounts.  i tried one of the spypoint mounts and dont like it.  that thing is a real pain to get screwed into the tree.  almost impossible without using two hands, which means i have to bring my harness out with me.  slate rivers screw in real easy

i just tried and held the menu button down for at least 45 seconds and nothing hapened. what i dont understand when i put the batteries in with no sd card the sd icon on the screen flashes, and the red pir light is on, so it seems like it has some sort of function. i dont know what the deal is with it.

Like I said, it's a little tricky. Hold the button down for a couple seconds, and then release it.

Maybe it really is messed up.   :dunno:

One thing to try is pull one battery out. That will reset it. I've had to do that before with my Tasco's, actually many times.

Probably nothing wrong with it- recommend reading the manual and understand thoroughly...

SUCCESS!!! on a whim this morning i decided to throw a 64mb card into it rather then the 8 or 4gb cards i was trying and what do you know instantly laded up and was taking pictures. small victory but it made my week, it doesn't take much for me. :IBCOOL:

They makes sense because like it says in the manual, 2 GB is the maximum that will work.
