Title: Help on Building a 17. HMR
Post by: moocher97 on February 15, 2014, 09:17:00 PM
So I have some really cool pieces of figured maple and I thought it would be the coolest thing if I made one out of the maple. I'm planning on hand carving the stock out of a block of wood but after that I need all the components (I want it to be a bolt action) Now I've been looking online for parts to make the gun but have gotten nowhere? Have you guys ever made a gun? Should I call savage or any brand to see what they have ? Any tips would be most appreciated or links that have parts thanks.  :)

Savage, Marlin and CZ make .17 HMR rifles.  Don't know if they sell barreled actions, etc.  You'd have to contact them to find out.  Competition shooters have actions rebarreled, and would know where to get parts.  I and a friend just got done building me a custom Ruger 10-22;  Boyd's stock, ER Shaw barrel, and all other parts from Tactical Innovations.  (The only thing that says "Ruger" is the magazine.)  :chuckle:  Brownell's has gun parts.  Check the ads in the gun/shooting magazines.  They say you can find anything on the internet...

thats a good question??? i have never seen a custom built 17 hmr in person. honestly now this is my opinion, i would buy a savage or marlin and then build your own stock for it. but i also enjoy the dedication to a custom job as well. hope you find stuff will be following this thread closely.
