No real activity for months before this date and then all kinds of critters show up on the same day. Unfortunately no cats.

If I knew more about what makes animals move and when they move I'd be a shooter instead of a hunter! I didn't realize we had civet cats in this area. I've seen almost everything but in all the years I've spent out there I've never seen a civet cat.

I've still haven't seen a spotted skunk on this side of the mountains. Maybe they're like deer and elk and loose their spots when they get older. :chuckle:

That is crazy that everything moved on that day...
So, where did you see them call it a civet cat? The only reference I know of civet cats is from Africa... I know my dad and his buddies always called the spotted skunk a "polecat"... no idea why.

I first heard it from my father in the late 70's when he was trapping. Have always called them that since. Most recently I read it on WDFW at the link I posted above.
Type "Civet Cat" into Google and you will get Asian and African images.
Type "Civet Cat Washington" into Google and you will get images of Spotted Skunks.
