Title: MK262 clones
Post by: WoodlandShooter on February 25, 2014, 10:43:38 AM
well, been tryong to clone the Mk262...not having much luck, and may have to swap powders. Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

what I want:

75, or 77 grain bullet @ 2650-2680 FPS from a carbine barrel (16")
Fits in a mag, so 2.24 COL

What I currently have:
CCI Smal Rifle Primers
LC-08 Brass
Nosler 77grain OTM (no canelure)
seeing ejector marks on the brass with 25.5 grains of Varget, getting 2580 FPS

Does anyone have any idea of what powder to use? Looks like Varget will not do it.

As a side note, does anyone know wehat powder is used on the Hornady Superformance 75 grain Match 556 ammo?? From what I can tell, it's 26 grains of powder, and gets 2680 out of my rifle.

I think superformance uses a mix of powders.

Ramshot TAC or AA 2230.

You also might try commercial brass for more case capacity/lower pressure.

Superformance uses special blend(s) of powders.  I had read that Hodgdon released some in canister form recently, but I am not familiar with the specifics.

I was thinking about using Winchester brass, but the LC brass I have is lighter than the factory winchester stuff I have.

A 2520 looks hot....

77 SIERRA HPBT MK 25.5 2,925 62,200 2.260

If you are not really on a LRRP and are on the west side, I could spare a few rounds worth of Ramshot TAC or AA 2230 if you cannot find any to try out.
