I'm looking for a set of training collars for my 2 labs one is about 3 the other under 6 months. I have no idea what I'm looking at or for in a collar. I've looked at a few sport dogs I think but really have no idea. Want for just basic training and waterfowl and possibly some upland.

I use the tritronics sport basic i think G-3 can run 3 collars with buzz and 5 levels of shock. Works great but i use it training hounds not bird dogs. I dont know why that would matter just never trained a bird dog

I'm new to the training collar thing myself, but stay away from sport dog. I bought one for my lab, and the range is horrible, the battery life is terrible, and my lab shrugs off the nic like its nothing. He is a stubborn dog, but after I bought a tritronics, he minds a lot better. Ill have to check the model number when I get home, but its a solid collar and remote. If I remember correctly they were bought out by Garmin as well, so you could get an older model on sale somewhere I'm sure.
Sent from my space modulator.

I'd steer clear of the sportdogs, nothing more than a revamped innotek, innoteks were junk and plagued with problems.I had one and it was awful, nothing worse than having the collar do whatever it wanted and just go into shock mode all on it's own at full power. The second time it happend was the last time I used it.I sent that collar set back 4 different times for repairs.
garmin bought tri tronics, which isn't a good thing IMO.I had excellent luck with 2 different tri tronics collars for the 10 years I had them, lost the transmitter to one and the other still works.Dogtra collars are good.Training collars are just like scopes/binos,you get what you pay for.If it looks and feels chincy, most likely it is.A quality tested brands economy models are affordable and reliable and will hold up to regular useage for a long time.

I would say Tri Tronics. Look at a Flyway GE3 EXP.
Check out Collar Clinic on line.
Some folks will chime in here soon so hold off. Think I heard Garmin bought out Tri -Tronic.
I have had the Flyway for 15 years no problems. Hunt waterfowl. Training my 2nd dog with it. My son has the G3.
I have gotten excellent service from Collar Clinic over the years. And they take trade in if you want to step up. :twocents:
