Title: Top 3 bucks
Post by: Kazekurt on March 01, 2014, 03:39:16 PM
The forum has been slow so I thought I'd throw out this question.  What are your 3 favorite bucks of all time?  I'm not talking just B&C score, but rather which bucks you would shoot if all were available but you only had 3 shells.  Would you go for a crazy non typical like the Broder buck?  Perhaps a double droptine?  Whitetail?  Mule deer?  Have fun with this and be sure to explain why you choose your 3.

Kazekurt's top 3.

1. Mundy buck
Score: 288 6/8 B&C
Points/Width: 22, 49 2/8" wide
Location: New Mexico
Date: 1962

Comments: This buck is the widest buck entered in Boone & Crocket and is #1 in the Burkett Scoring System (volume).  Has the biggest typical frame ever recorded at 246 Gross, 237 3/8 Net.  Killed by Dave Maestas (recorded as Frank Maestas).  I'll admit to being biased towards mule deer but can you really argue with 49" wide, greatest volume ever, and largest typical frame ever?

2.  Kilfoil buck
Score: 276 5/8 B&C
Points/Width: 21, 47 1/2" wide
Location: Utah
Date: 1938

Comments: This buck ranks #58 all time and is one of the widest bucks recorded in Boone & Crockett at 47.5".  There may be bigger, but this buck has beautiful Symmetry for a non typical.

3. Hanson buck
Score:  213 5/8 typical B&C
Points/Width 14, inside spread 27+
Location: Saskatchewan
Date: 1993

Comments:  Simply a beautiful buck.  Main beams are almost identical in length and a "picket fence" of long tines going down each side.  I'd pass up a number of mule deer for this buck and if you know me, that's really saying something!

Cartwright buck. 202 7/8" net typical.

My favorite because he is a local Buck, and shows the potential that Washington has to offer. Plus we have sheds off the Cartwright buck.

Next would be a buck few know about. The Cool's buck. 217" net non typical. 190" typical frame with great junk!! Killed three years ago in Stevens county.

Then there's the Williams buck 223" non typical killed in the same year as the Cartwright buck......we have sheds off him too :chuckle:.

All three Stevens county.   My favorite bucks. And of course there whitetail!!

Pic is of Cools buck.

Nice picks buckman!  The personal connection with those bucks is a nice touch and they are some of the finest WA bucks ever harvested.  The only connection I have to my choices are the many dreams of mine they've  appeared in:-)

Funny enough, all Washington bucks.  I guess I need to dream bigger

#1....Hide and Seek buck.   Probably a little anticlimactic since I have already sent an arrow through him, but I would not replace that adventure for anything, and would love to do it again.

#2, Doesn't have a name, but I have been photographing or trying to for the last couple years.

#3 ANother unnamed buck.  A monster whitetail that I am sure would eclipse the world record.  An absolute giant typical. I have seen him once.  Have not even found a shed from him.

My top 3 for now. Might change tomorrow. I cant help it I like them all! :dunno:
Picked these ones because of eye appeal mostly.

1. John Breen buck- Takes one awesome 5x5 to make 215 inches.
2. the Bend buck- Your gonna see his sheds all over the web any day now.
3. The Cartwright buck- Of all the top typical bucks, he's one of the most appealing I think.
