Looking for some bottom fishing gps numbers. I will be focusing of ling cod. I know Westport well for salmon. I am new to bottom fishing. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Jigs - bait etc.

Besides fishing the sunken jetty, I doubt you will be getting any numbers from anyone. Most of the ling holes outa wesport, and any other coastal port, are hard to find and guys that find them like to keep them. I give you numbers, you give them to a friend and pretty soon 20 boats are on my honey hole. I will tell ya there are lings out on the hali grounds above the canyons, 700 feet of water or so. And the jetty holds lings pretty much all year, and its close.

If I had a GPS I would have to give you numbers :tup: Anyone coming out and asking for the "honey holes" now that takes some lead weights.

You either need to run north towards destruction island or west to grays canyon. Steer clear of the marine sanctuary closures, but there are some good ling holes out there. Good luck.

Thanks everyone, not asking for any honey holes. I was just looking to get in a decent area. I fish for salmon all the time, but am new to bottom fishing.

Not the only way to do it, but you could just follow the charter fleet. Works for salmon.

Do you fish westport often? Your best bet would be to find the rock piles while you are salmon fishing and mark them. Learn how to use your sonar and look for the hard bottom, sometimes thats where their at even if you dont see a rock pile. Dont forget about the 30 fathom rules.

Lings are pretty easy to find and catch. Find any submerged structure, preferably 30' or more. Jig vertically with a lead head and scampy body. Adjust the size of your head according to current. Need enough weight to keep a vertical line angle and your jig on the rocks. I prefer rusty or copper colors to mimic greenling. Glo white is my second favorite

There's not a lot of rocky structure out of westport. Most rockfish around there are on gravel bars from my experience. There is a lot more structure north of westport.
