Title: DEER FEEDERS AND TRAIL CAMS ON PUBLIC PROPERTY?
Post by: irishevox on March 03, 2014, 07:28:49 AM: Hello what is ya'lls opinions on game cameras and deer feeders on public lan? bad idea? My real only concern is someone stealing it. Thats my only concern. So what do ya'll think?

Post by: buckfvr on March 03, 2014, 07:44:49 AM: Mostly depends on where..........I personally would never put out a feeder. If someone doesnt get it, a bear will. Cameras do get stolen in high traffic areas.

Cameras can be very usefull if you interpet the pictures correctly. Theres more to it than most realize. Good luck whatever you decide.

So i was going to put it out during the summer months...... it is not in a high traffice area... where i go. I am just mainly ocncerend about the Feeder if i leave it out... b/c i put a blind out there and it never gets stolen... during turkey season.

A little recon to confirm or deny that you really have an area that has no traffic, particularly high traffic.

If it's NF land, can you leave a feeder out?

Post by: irishevox on March 03, 2014, 08:50:49 AM: Yeah i can leave it out.... it is "recommeded" you don;t leave it and the state isn't liable if someone steals your gear it's on you.... I think the Cameras will be my best bet. and see what happens..

I'd hang the cameras and let them sit a few months of summer before putting the feeder up. A place might look like no man has ever been there but come shed hunting season and amateur hiking time, you'll be surprised how much human traffic there'll be.

Plus you want to make sure it's in an area that will be productive during a season when animals are escaping pressure

True, and to be clear I wouldn't put up a feeder this time of year, additionally the places I hunt are buried in snow right now. Nobody is getting there.
