Title: Hunting in MONTANA
Post by: Threewolves on March 03, 2014, 05:06:58 PM
I am looking for information about applying for a nonresident hunting combo Elk and DEER license in MONTANA.

Do I have to put in for for permits hunts?

Are there areas where I can kill a cow elk with a bull tag (when all else fails) like in Colorado?

How can I determine where the above areas  are. I looked on the Montana wildlife and parks site, the maps and writting are so small I can hardly see/read them

Write or call mt fish wildlife and parks for a non resident hunting application they have to be in by march 15. If you put in for an elk permit and don't get drawn for the area you apply for they will refund 300 dollars and you just have the deer tag unless you wish to still hunt elk in general open areas. I called licensing in Helena asking for applications and in 3 days I received mine.

license apps are due 3/15.  if you want to apply for limited entry they are due 3/15 also.  yes there are hunt districts where you can shoot a bull or cow on a general elk license.  you do not have to apply for limited entry permits.  look at the hunt planner app for district specifics.
