Title: Marlin XS7
Post by: huntingaddiction on March 04, 2014, 08:40:50 AM
I have a friend that is looking for a .308.  He was looking at a Marlin XS7 and couldn't find anything bad about them.  Until the other day we found a review that said Marlin was using refurbished remington barrels.  It said the barrels have REM stamped on them.  I told him the guy was probably dumb because Remington bought Marlin in 2007.  But before i tell him it is not true i would like to make sure that nobody else has heard or seen anything like that.  Any info is appreciated.

I think you want to find Marlins that have the JM stamp on the barrel. Not the Rem stamp. When I bought my guide gun I made sure it was an older, Marlin made gun.

I would not disagree with you.  But i am not buying the rifle and that seems to be the gun he wants.  and he wants the new one.

I guess what I should have said is lots of folks say the Remmy made guns dont shoot as good.

I have two. One is a youth model 7-08, the other is a.223. I have nothing bad to say about either. I would buy another.  I just checked and neither one says Rem. anywhere. They both shoot just fine. I've gotten 1" groups with the 7-08, have not played with enough with .223 to find out how accurate it is. He may also want to look at the Ruger American.
