Title: Me and my 12 year old daughter drew spring bear for 49 degrees
Post by: teegansdad on March 11, 2014, 02:13:51 AM
Any help would be appreciated my daughter and I got drawn for our first spring bear hunt for the 49 degrees unit! Can't wait, any advice would be helpful. This is a great forum and I appreciate any feedback I can get. I realize its not the kill that matters it's the quality time with my daughter, but a picture of her with her first bear at age 12 would be pretty cool too.

Few know more about spring bear and bear hunting in that area than Dale Denny of Bearpaw Outfitters (Bearpaw on here).  Dale has been a great source of NE hunting information to me personally.  And after meeting he and his wife and their nice facility I no longer drag my trailer up there. I stay with them and eat their good food :chuckle:

My first trip up there for spring bear was when my wife drew a tag a few years ago.  At that time she was legally blind, short tempered and a down right fist full of personality (and that's not necessarily a good thing). ;)  I knew I had my hands full in trying to find her a bear.  And being so far from home I realized we/I needed some help.  So we got one of Dale's maps.  Not only did he sit down with us and show us where most of the good spots were on the map.  But he also took the time to understand Lorraine's limitations and explain where and what approach might be best for her.  One of the best $275 I've ever spent!

Congratulations to you and your daughter!  I wish my father and I could have had an opportunity like that!  Take lots of pictures and share them with us, please!

thx for the tip i have contacted denny, he seems to have a good reputation. I am going to continue to do my home work on bearpaw before i decide to book. I took my 16 year old daughter last year on a guided trip with a guide from puyallup area that was a disaster. Infact the very mention of his name on this site causes controversy

I'm not sure, but you might want to look into buying an Inland Empire Paper family pass if needed for any part of that area. I think they're about $72. They own a lot of land around there I do believe. www.iepco.com (http://www.iepco.com)

That guy had/has the worst reputation in the business. Dale has a outstanding reputation and will treat you guys right and you will have a good trip.

You can usually use Bearpaw's maps and give it a go on your own with good success.  If you find you are having trouble finding bear Dale is usually available on short notice.  That's what I did last year.  I found plenty of bear in the areas his maps told me they would be.  I just wasn't able to find the size of boar I was looking for.  First thing in the morning on the second day with Dale and we found exactly what I was looking for!  Great guy, nice accommodations, good food and instant friendship!

There are some good folks on this site that are not guides that produce regularly in that area too.  If you dig through the Bear Hunting history it won't take you long to figure out who they are.  Most have a soft spot for father/daughter teams ;)  Take advantage of that!  You will have a great time for sure.  It's going to make up for all the trouble you experienced last year.

Just remember the tick spray and the turkey gun!

I hunted spring bear with Dale last year and agree with all the good things said about him and his facility.
