And there were no fish biting :bash: :bash: :bash:
More of taking to new boat out in the salt for the first time to run it and test out the New to Me electric Down rigger
Seen maybe 4 other boats out there but that it. Didn't expect to catch any thing, just out on the water for the day.
Down rigger worked great for me but the fish did not cooperate :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Trolled a bit in front of the boathouse, clay banks, over by the narrows (Evans I think is the name) and jigged a few spots two but had no luck.
Enjoyed the hell out of driving the boat around, getting used to it and breaking in the motor.
Gonna hit American Lake tomorrow and try for some Koke's :fishin:
Anyone got any pointers on getting koke's :dunno:

Ideal trolling speed for Kokanee in about 1.4 mph. Heres an article on fishing for them you may find useful. http://www.katu.com/news/outdoors/Tips-for-catching-kokanee-215107881.html (http://www.katu.com/news/outdoors/Tips-for-catching-kokanee-215107881.html)
Herring, squid, and anchovy scents also seem to work alright.Try some dodgers and flashers as that also seems to work. They seem to like red and pink colored lures also but that's not always the case. Best of luck!

That's my old fishin grounds! Dad and I fished Defiance and Evans, Fosdick, Fox, Concrete dock in the 70's. So so many fish caught around the clay banks on the north side around to the light house just mooching with the incoming tide over those years. ..

Find some Kokanee DNA and small pink colored hoochies and sling blade doggers.

Yeah, I grew up fishing all those spots with my dad too, I have walked the beach to fling Buzz Bombs at the Clay Banks, fished the original Fox Island pier, Slag Pile, Les Davis, the Grain Mill from shore, etc...... Even caught my share of fish from Steilacum Pier :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Fish is no where near what it used be in the 70's or 80's :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:
Used to fish Les Davis all night catching Hake by the buckets and Salmon at first light..... them were the good old days of fishing in the South Sound

Yup that area certainly is not the same.I know some people fish off salters beach. Squid jigging there ain't supposed to be to bad there either. My dad went to Curtis high school in UP back in the 80s and used to fish that area and chambers creek quite a bit.Its insane how much development theres been there in the past few years.
-
Chambers. there's another one that is an old stomping ground for me.
Fished the bay throwing buzz bombs and hand launched my 12' boat and went out to the sound and jigged for salmon
They used to let fish go above the dam and we would catch salmon on a bobber with eggs right at the bridge.
A buddy and me used to walk the creek from below the hatchery and take a bowl while we were down there :bdid: thats where i first learned creek fishing and toking dont go hand in hand :bash: :bdid:

You didn't get fish because you forgot your FishMojo home and you had the wrong crew :)

I just Pm'd Gasman... It looks like we crossed some of the same waters. Years apart though...
Chambers included...

Spent a lot of time with my dad back in the 70's-80's fishing from Redondo to Defiance, caught a lot of fish, great memories.
-
:yeah: great memories are all we have now in the south sound.

Gasman,, You and I have fished the same waters back in the day. I have won quite a few of the monthly derbies from the clay banks, slag pile, and Delco Point. If it didn't cost so much to fish out there I just might go back out and show y'all a few tricks

You see a lost soul in a blue Wooldridge down there? That was my brother. He ran clear to La Connor. He should of stayed down south cause he got blown off at Camano island.

Was he running his boat to test out the new fuel lines he installed :dunno:
Talked to guy at the launch that was just running north to test new fuel (not fishing) lines he put in. He said he normally fish the big C and I should look at heading down there this year and get in to the action. Dont remember what kind of boat he had except it was Aluminum, did not notice a manufacture.
-
That was him. He said he chatted with you for a bit. He had a rather rough day.

Sweet
He was a really cool guy to talk to. chatted a bit and learned some pointers from him with his anchor system he uses
I will be the first to admit, that I am always learning and asking questions of people to learn new or improved things :brew:

Gasman, I sent you a pm. I grew up in University Place and still live in Steilacoom at the mouth of Chambers. I am fishing the sound with downriggers most of the year and would be more than happy to help you out. Mike

He used the favor card and had a buddy grab his trailer and come get him. The guy at La Connor recommended he not go back out and I'm thinking he was the smart of the two....
I've fished the Puget sound a bit but I'm no expert there. If you want some help with the Columbia though I can give you enough advice to get you on the right track. 2.5+ million reasons coming back this year and most should be in just the month of August.
Shoot me a pm anytime
