Does any one know if Idaho is a draw or is it over the counter tag for rifle hunting? I know you can get archery over the counter tags. Me and a few friends are thinking of going to Idaho next year, any help would be appreciated.

There is a couple of Draw tags but there is alot of "over the counter" rifle/B tags. But there is a quota on the amount of tags and the last few years they sold out. 2009 tags in Idaho go up for sale December 1st 2008. There is a few zones that sell out the first day. Good luck and there is some great hunting in some areas of Idaho.

almost all of the elk tags are over the counter with a few exceptions, and those all heave special permit bull hunting, most of these areas are near yellowstone and the montana wyoming borders, the southeast and hells canyon, there are several zones that do not have a b tag quota, but they would still be under the non resident tag quota, if you want to apply for special permits there will be tags left under the non res quota later in the year and then you can choose one of the zones that has no overall quota, there is good elk hunting to be had almost everywhere in the state so you really cant go wrong, during deer season i saw a nice 6 point only about 20 miles from boise and there are unlimited b tags for that zone so the opportunity to kill a trophy may not be as great in the unlimited zones but it is still there, check out the idaho fish and game hunt planner http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/ifwis/huntplanner you can find all the harvest stats and hunter numbers including % 6 pt. or better bulls taken. hopefully all this info helps you out and good luck

If you would like to hunt the backcountry areas, which opens Sep 15th, you will need to get on the phone early in Dec before they sell out. Its a great area, but in the past couple years we havent been seeing the game we used to see prior to the releasing of the wolves. Yes, I assure you, they are there. We have come across random Elk/Deer/Moose carcasses that we never saw before. Not to mention, we had a wolf howling outside out wall tent one night. It made for an intersting night to say the least.

If you hate what the wolves are doing. You can put in your comment to the department of interrior. THere was a thread on it. The more the better to kill some of those SOB's.
