So I have this gal friend who has never been fishing before and she asked me to take her and teach her what I know. She lives in Olympia and I was wondering if there are any good spots up around that area. She said she wants to start trout fishing.
Any advice on places near or around Olympia would be great
Thanks
DJ

Black Lake is open year round and has a public boat ramp.

Offut Lake between Oly and Tenino is good for trout pretty much year round. Has a nice little resort with dock fishing and boats if you need one. When the seasonal lakes open I've had decent luck at Ward. There's a ton of lakes around Olympia. Check out http://www.washingtonlakes.com/ (http://www.washingtonlakes.com/)

if you give it another month, lots of places to fish come the last saturday in april. ward, hicks, patterson, long lakes are all good fishing.
deschutes river is another good option if you don't mind using artificials and catch and release, but i'd give it until june when it gets warm enough to wet wade.

Lake St. Claire and Lawrence lake are both open year round also. If you have a boat St. Claire is real nice and lots of fish. go the WDFW site and they show what is planted when and where.
good luck

I was just posting to say St Clair. As I was posting Bofire's post showed up. :)
Even without a boat, guys catch trout right from the boat launch at St Clair.

A couple more good lakes that are open this time of year (check the regs first though in case they've changed) but are not really near Olympia are Spencer Lk and Island Lake out near Shelton. Island is one that can be good from the shore in case you don't have a boat.
