Workbook teaches kids that Second Amendment includes gun control
A social studies workbook, used in an Illinois public middle school, is generating controversy among gun rights supporters because it claims that the Second Amendment permits only strictly regulated, registered gun ownership.
A screenshot of the workbook was first posted to the Facebook page for Illinois Gun Owners Rights. It provides the following description of the Second Amendment:
"This amendment states that people have the right to certain weapons, providing that they register them and have not been in prison. The founding fathers included the amendment to prevent the United States from acting like the British who had tried to take weapons away from the colonists."
The actual text of the Second Amendment makes no mention of gun registration:
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
According to the Facebook page, parent Rich Kinison first posted the image. His child attends school at Grant Middle School in Springfield, Illinois.

:bash:
Part of the gun control strategy is to " educate" the children that guns are evil and scary and should be controlled by the government.

Illinois.
Public school.
That pretty well sums it up.
-
Another reason to home school. If anyone needed any other reasons to pull there kids out of public school before they turn into a liberal.
-
We don't home school and our kids don't believe everything they're told.
Engaged parents are critical.

We never had that crap when I was a kid. I'm a product of the Illinois public school system. I wonder what company made that book. Somebody should look into that. We do have a FOID card, which registers gun owners through state police system. You can't even buy shotgun ammo as a resident without one of those.

Not really, there are many good teachers (I would hazard to say most) out there. Simply teach your kids how to think for themselves, ask questions of the teacher, and talk to you when they think something is not quite "right". Also be involved and aware of what your kids are doing in the classroom. :twocents:

Dopey is still pullin strings in Illinois..........his yes we can bud oprah is probably buyin......................

The people who can re-write history can control history! They have moved from trying to convince you and I that we are wrong and started an all out campaign to educate our children that we are!

Scout- And what is sad that with work schedules, family life and the way schools even punish kids for the things that they do at home, that is the way it has systemically become here in the US. Parents and family members now have to step in and fix the broken system. This is not just a 2nd ammendment issue, it has to do with every basic right that we have as US citizens.
-
Agreed, the big question that is looming for me is when does America hit the tipping point? The point of no return where the "average" citizen must make their mind up to either cave into the power of this system, or stand up and fight the system.
I think we could all agree that we are all ready there, as I'm sure most sportsman have experience in some kind of "standing up" for their rights in gun control or hunting rights. What about "Joe-bag-O-donuts" living next door that has never done anything with his life? Or are we dealing with the frog in the pot of water that is slowly boiling and soon he is cooked without ever knowing what happened?

:yeah:
In other words, be involved. Parent is a verb.

I was suspicious of teachers and their motivations at an early age, which was both good and bad.
In terms of the text, I can't remember what the actual text was in any of the books I was given up through high school. If you look back as an adult and feel like you were duped by your middle school textbook, it's likely you have neglected decades of additional learning that should have taken place during your lifetime.

Has anyone had the sayings of the second amendment tattooed to there wrist. It may be necessary as the libs try to water it down and change every part of it. I bet the history books are way different than when I was in school. All PC now and extra fluffy. If you don't know or understand the past one is bound to repeat it.

Since both of our wife's are teacher i have to agree with you... My problem is that "good" teachers teach their subject and go less noticed... Some teachers purposely choose material to push the agenda and teach to that. I have had teachers in HS and College that graded much harsher/lenient depending on IF you fell in line with the BS they were trying to push. I have also been to teachers end of year parties and its not hard to figure out who's class i would NOT want my kids attending.
JLS you are correct Parrenting is a Verb and that is important to keep in the front of your mind. While my kids do not have undermining teachers they have had Subs that are... Being a good parrent IS about teaching your child to think...
I don't think its good to put your kids into a situation that directly opposes your values, so if you have that kind of teacher move to a different class room, or find some other solution. :twocents:

I hope that enough parents raise a stink so that's changed. :bash: I had a discussion with a gun-hater the other day about the NRA Eddie Eagle program for schools. She hated it because it was taught by the evil NRA. So I asked her when her child someday comes in contact with a firearm, will it be his last day on Earth or will it just be the next? She said that would never happen because she always knows where her child is and with whom. Aint ignorance just grand? When her kid dies, it'll be the gun's fault, I guaran-damn-tee it.

Nah, my kids no better and would have no problem calling out a teacher that would try to push this garbage onto them.

Yes!!!! Finally some common sense. This is the most important thing I can think of for a child's education.

I would expect no less from the crew here on HUNT WA!!! Its all the rest of society that worries me? The part of society that uses public schools as daycares and are not proactive with there kids.
