Title: Big ol' Weekend Steel
Post by: 7mmfan on March 25, 2014, 07:29:29 AM
Probably made my last trip out to the coast for the season, and it was worthy! Took a friend out steelhead fishing for the first time Friday and he landed his first one..37"x20"=19.09 pounds. Son of a gun, set the bar high! I don't think he really knows what he accomplished with that fish, oh well.

We landed one other big buck about that size but he fought so hard we opted to not take any photos just get him revived and on his way.

We managed 5-7 hookups a day through Sunday, lost a few nice fish and landed one more big hen, 38"x19"=17.7? pounds.

And lastly me left with a face full of water from an uncooperative and apparently unphotogenic hen.

All in all a fantastic trip and fantastic weather, couldn't ask for a better weekend to end my season on!

Very nice! Great judgement on the tired fish you didn't get a pic of. Oh, and pic #2, can you say STS cover shot!

That was my Dad and I as well. The closure of the Sky was a major ding for us, but we had been learning the Skagit/Sauk for a few years so it was an easy transition. When those ones closed a few years back, we knew it was the beginning of the end. I easily logged 60+ winter/spring days before they closed. Now I only get maybe a dozen good winter steelhead days a year.

Silvana, Fortsen Hole near Darrington and Machias were his favorites spots.

It was a great weekend to be on the coast. Congrats on messing up your buddy for life. What methods were most successful on that river?

We caught fish either pulling plugs or float fishing. Saturday the water was still very murky so most fish were on plugs but I caught a couple float fishing pink worms. Sunday most of the fish came on either yarn or pink worms fished under a float.
