I own a sig p229 .40 and a m&p .40
The sig is amazing, the m&p is a great pistol but I really prefer the sig due to allot of things but mainly the trigger.

Carry gun?

I'm not sure

Well without any information as to how it will be used, i'd say if he is looking for a carry gun, I'd go with the M&P. If he is looking for anything else, get the sig  :twocents:

if you like having the long double action trigger pull on the first shot, the I'd lean towards the sig. The sig will also probably be more accurate out of the box..

I shoot an M&P and it shoots well for me. It replaced a Glock and my scores improved. I am not a fan of double/single trigger pulls because I want the first shot to feel like all the rest. I imagine with practice I could get used to it. I am pleasantly impressed with the M&P though.

Sig all the way, better trigger, more accurate, better resale, etc etc. I've owned striker fired pistols and hammer fired, I doubt I will ever own another striker fired pistol. I have yet to handle a new striker fired handgun that didn't need a trigger job out of the box but if you or your friend doesn't mind a loooong creepy trigger pull the striker fired guns are tough and extremely dependable. Sig is deserving of it's "to hell and back" reputation as well. Have him rent and shoot both, that will probably make the decision pretty easy.
