There is a online petition going around that will be sent to the Kitsap county commissioners. Anyone can sign, even if you don't live in the county.
They have been in the same spot since 1928, people move near the range, then complain because they don't like living near a range. I lost my home range to this exact scenario.
I am not a member but have shot matches there many times and they are great people.

I'll sign it when I get home tonight. We need a legislative bill protecting shooting ranges.

There were less than 300 signatures the last time I looked, that's not good......

The "Grandfather" law should apply to this club as long as it is active. As past president fo Sumner Sportsmans Association, we dealt with this type of problem on a regular basis.

From what I understand it does not cover this club, I believe due to the land not being "owned" by the club.

Does WA state have a current law that protects shooting ranges? I was trying to find one on the RCW pages but couldnt... I'd love to see it if we do have one

The club does own the land, but that doesn't matter as far as the Grandfathering goes. If you are a "nonconforming use property" you are Grandfathered.
Back in the late 90s, 96 I think, DNR said the range was grandfathered as of then. that was when the club/range was leasing the property from DNR. In 2009 DNR and Kitsap County did a land swap and the range property was part of that land swap. the County didn't want to be a land lord to a gun range but couldn't kick the club off the property because the range staying was part of the land swap deal. The County sold the land to the club and said they wanted to be "good neighbors". In the Sale Agreement
between the County and the Club it is stated that the club can keep doing what it had been historically been doing. 16 month later the County, "on the behalf of some concerned citizens" filed suit against the club for a whole mess of violations supposedly going back to 2005.. Then on top of the law suit, the County has come up with a new Gun Range Ordnance they want to impose on us. The ordnance is so restrictive it would be almost impossible to operate under.. You don't have to believe me, go check it out for yourselves.
We tried a few years ago to get some Gun Range Protection Legislation pass in the state, but it died.
Pierce County recently passed a pretty good Gun Range Protection Ordnance the could be a model for the state.

Campmeat: you should be okay about the e mail stuff. I want to thank you and everyone that has signed the petition. This is more the one little gun range trying to stay alive. This is about THEM telling YOU how you are to live your life(their way). It's about government out of control. Sorry about getting on the soap box. If your interested in how this all came about, go to Google and look up the Kitsap Rifle & Revolver Club and read some of the things written. Check out this group CK Safe & Quiet. Look into the history of County Prosecutor Russ Houge vs Marcus Carter and tie that into the law suit against the club. i must admit I am bias in this, so like I said before, don't believe me, check it out for yourself and make your own decision.
Thank you for your time.
