Heading down to east cape area of Baja and am planning on a few days of beach fishing. Renting an ATV to cruise beaches in search of fish. Specifically roosters. Any techniques, advice would be appreciated . Bringing spin and fly outfits. Tied up a bunch of poppers, crease flies, clousers, deceivers and am bringing big Zara spooks, jigs, swim baits large jointed rapalas too.

Boy without live bait there tough. Especially with a fly. Catching them on the fly is tough so most use the bait and switch technique.
Unless you witness a feeding frenzy, even plugs can be an all day casting event without much to show.
But it still sounds fun and luck can prevail.

Sounds nice!! Have fun on your trip, good luck catching the rooster!

Have fun for sure. We'll be down there in September in LaPaz for 8 nights and 6 days of charters. ATV journey sounds like a lot of fun... Get ahold of Jonathon with Tailhunters, pretty cool guy and has ogles of local knowledge on what works best...

Wait for the sport fisher boats to finish for the day. They moor up to their buoys and dump their leftover sardines, most of which are half dead. The roosters hear that dinner bell and come running. We caught a bunch like this. No big ones but up to 8-10 pounds we probably caught 10-15 a day. Not sure how that'd work from shore. We were in pangas fairly close to shore though.

Awesome job Tom, I am so stoked about seeing these makes me want to leave early for LaPaz- I am not scheduled till Sep.... Auuugh! Big fish - early that is the best part!!!! Pretty sure after this coming year down there I am dumping my annual Florida Keys trip and doing two to LaPaz instead..
What size reel you using for the troll? Light gear I would assume from the rod in the picture, makes it way more fun than some 5 gallon bucket reel with a shovel handle rod...

Nice stripe, we were down last May. It was an awesome trip. It looks like he is obviously bonked, did you bring it home? They are a great eating fish and cheap to ship home.
