,,,,,Wyoming in 2010 for an elk hunt  ? I'm going to plan a predation hunt in Jackson Hole probably the week or two before Thanksgiving.I was thinking about 2009, but I HAVE TO PAY FOR A WEDDING :'( .
The last time I set up this hunt there was 6 that went and came home with 4 nice cows. The two that
didn't get an elk missed their shots. Quick Draw (my daughter) if she would have listen to me were I told her to hold, she would have gotten hers :dunno: . I should say that this hunt is for COWS ONLY..
This is not a draw hunt. All the tags are over the counter. We will stay in a condo. The last time that Quick Draw and I went back it cost about $1000.00 total. That was for both of us, not each. The only problem is that they only have X amount of tags so we would have to by early. I'm not too sure of the price now, but the last time the tags cost around $250 for everything.
Its a fun hunt.

Hunterman(Tony) , I'd be interested; I'll be in a diffrent job position spring of this year so will be well settled in by 2010.
What ya going to use as screening criteria? I can vouch for myself as being a pretty good guy, but my wife might argue that once and awhile........ ;)
Thanks, Rich
-
damn Im going in on the bob 2010,I would love to do that cow hunt sounds like good times
-
We wil need about 6 people to make this hunt work.
The main criteria will be :
1) Good people
2) People who like to have a good time
3) Good people
4) People who enjoy good people
5) Good people
For the ones that go we will split the cost of the condo, and everyone should bring at lease one dinner meal. It helps keep the cost of the trip down.
Hunterman(Tony)
Did I mention Good People??
-
2010 sounds good to me, that way I'll have enough $$$$$ saved up since I"m guessing I'll have to pay for myself this time around huh?
AS long as my school schedule is going well I should be able to make it.
So lets see here I've gotta get a flight, tags, my share of the place, food, cut and wrapping fees, plus the extra bagage fee to bring the meat back.
Quick Draw
-
You bet you have to pay your way this time :chuckle: You shouldn't have to worry too much on the cost of cutting and wrapping, unless the elk is standing on your gun barrel :IBCOOL: :chuckle:
Go ahead and tell them about the hunt Quick Draw
Hunterman(Tony)
-
May as well put me on the list. Heck yeah! I'd go in a heartbeat!
-
I'll shoot Bill and Michelle a PM about it today too. See what Bill can tell me about the Perdation hunt that way we'll have an idea on the changes in rates and what not.
If you want me to?????
Quick Draw

Now we're cooking with gas :IBCOOL:
The list so far looks like:
1) Hunterman(Tony)

Get with MHWASH he and his dad are good people I hunted with them for a few days in the blues. Wanna talk good food??? MH's wife makes some AWESOME spaghetti!!
You may want to PM bighorns2bushytails. He'd be interested, I'd think that he'd jump on the chance.
I'd be very interested. If this is for real I'd be STOKED!!
Actually want to get with some folks for antelope/ mule deer in wyoming or montana in 09 assuming we get drawn. I'd even strongly consider a guided hunt for speedgoats.
-
im game. if gutpile is going to go ill go. would love to fill the freezer with some elk. keep me posted and informed and count me in... ive already gotten the OK from the girlfriend.
-
Hey Tony,
For a min there I thought I was on HT...LOL.
Hey invite Del... That way we could........ Oh never mind !
I would like to put my name down, but it could change. Maybe Kevin would go ? I know he has about had it here.
-
If I can be added I would like to join up for a good fun meat hunt. Can you also add my son, so we both can get on the list. I would drive and have a crew cab diesel with camper shell on back to haul stuff back to WA, and a pretty decent trailer too. I am putting in for a couple other hunts in Wyoming, deer and antelope so maybe timing would be perfect on return... But let me know, I'd be in for certain...
-
Get stocked folks. As far as I'm concerned WE ARE HEADING TO WYOMING :IBCOOL:
I'll get a new list up Tomarrow..
Hunterman(Tony)

i spoke to my wife and she and i would be happy to fill two spots. i was thinking about a Buffalo hunt in MT in 2010 for about 2500. but that sounds like more fun.
-
i would be very interested and like to go if theres room!!
-
Sounds like we have 3 more on the list. I'll put your names on the post above..
Looks like we will have to get a couple of condos :chuckle:
With the list that we have I will get a hold of the Wyoming dept. of game and get the tag info together, and get with the condo folks too. I will post all info here on this post. (Can we get this on a sticky please?)
This is going to be a GREAT HUNT AND A GREAT TIME :chuckle:
Look out Wyoming here comes WASHINGTON..
Hunterman(Tony)
-
cant wait... looking forward to this. think this will be my first time going to or through wyoming so i can justify it for geographical education. ;) keep me and gutpile informed of whats going on.
-
I will start with the condo folks this wek-end, and start getting info from the game department as well..

Ok so we are talking about Thanksgiving week of 2010, so two years from now? Ok, I may be in as I have to help Cohoho and NW Eric represent the Maple Valley/Black Diamond contingent! :chuckle: This sounds really great, I'll need to speak to the director of finances (the wife) as it's currently the middle of the night. Hell even if I couldn't get a tag I'd still love to go and be willing to help haul out some meat. This sounds like alot of fun.
-
I thought it was a couple weeks before thanksgiving? I hope this is not on thanksgiving.
-
Let's talk about this - BIG BUCKS near J-hole!
-
I was going to set this hunt up for two weeks before Thanksgiving, not Thanksgiving week.
Your right big-bucks there are some big bucks around Jackson Hole, but this is a perdation (cow) elk hunt that we're planning on.
WonkyWapiti, and big-bucks are you in?? If so you two will be the last ones.If not we'll close the list at Russ. I don't want to get this too big. We need to make sure we all can get tags. We all have to remember that the tags are over the counter, first come first serve, with a limited number of tags. We'll learn more as we go..
Hunterman(Tony)
-
Tony, not sure if Kevin will go yet ??
Do the tags need to be purchased in Wy at the time they become available ?
Have you any idea who can be the collector of funds and purchase at once ? Or do they become avail the dates you have selected ?
-
Ok, I am in!
-
Cameron,, I think they are available in like October, and can be purchased through the game dept. the two stamps have to be bought separately, but I'll find out more as we go. That's why I wanted to go in two years, less hurry time, and less misstakes. The tags will have to be bought per person, but I will check on that too..
Cool WonkyWapiti, your on the list :chuckle:

I know of one requirement that Wyoming has: Every out of state hunter NEEDS TO HAVE ON THEM THEIR HUNTER SAFETY CARD. EVERYONE. So this give who ever dose not have it to get theirs.
Hunterman(Tony)
-
We should plan a meet for this summer or spring so everyone can get to know one another! :brew:
-
That sounds like a winner to me. Sounds like a bar-b-q time to me  :chuckle:
Hunterman(Tony)
-
OK, guys I'll leave this stuck for a few more weeks and then I'll take it off the sticky.
-
I have always wanted to hunt out of state. Would be interested in joing the group. I'm a had wprker, good cook and have plenty of gear. Let me know
-
Hi there,
My name is Rene', I think I am a good guy, good person and always ready for a good time. Do you still have a spot open for that 2010 meat hunt? I am more than interested. I would be driving from WA. Is it a gun or archery hunt? I am new to this site but hope to establish some hunting body's.
-
The list is closed, but we can start an alternate list. We have two years, and I'm sure some folks might have to drop out for some reason..
nw_bowhunter and Austraian Hunter, would be the first on the list if you want to..
Hunterman(Tony)
-
Hey Tony...
I'd not worry to much about closing the list, I don't know if you remember how many Hunttalkers were going to make it and didn't, plus some times you can get better deals by reserving more space...
Besides, you can have people bring a bag and crash any where as we did when we were there
I don't know if you remember, but Tim (TNCTB) was sleeping on the couch in his sleeping bag and a couple members shared a room... ;)
That was a good year wasn't it...
I will tell every one, there are two ways to get your elk
1. Wait around the big parks and get them when they cross (this is really a luck of the draw when they come thru)
2. Hike into the hills and get them when they are resting for the last run into the reserve (for this I will tell you right now, you have to be in good shape or you won't make it. The elevation is far higher than most people on these boards are accustomed to and they won't make the hikes)
There’s also another rule besides having a hunter safety card (I've been asked to see mine by the game wardens twice)
You need to make certain you have bear spray on you because of the grizzlies (this is a rule and they will check to make sure you comply)
In addition, because this is part of the park system, you need to leave your pistols at home
Even if you don't get your elk (this is still hunting) make sure you bring your camera, the scenery is breath taking, moose, bison are scattered all over, and you will probably get a chance at seeing a wolf or two... :)
-
Can we start a second list. Two groups maybe?
-
is there a way to get a copy of your hunter safety card? my dad has had mine since i passed about 10 years ago and im not sure if he still has it.
-
I removed one person from the list, and nw_bowhunter has been added..
>:( Let me say this only once: IF YOU CANNOT LIVE UP TO DEAL YOU MAKE WITH THE FOLKS HERE, THEN WE DON'T WANT YOU!!! >:(
-

I spoke to the game dept about that. I took mine over 25 years ago and have no proof. They'll allow you to sign an Affidavit and re issue the card. I'd do it well before the date just in case they change there minds though.
-
thanks gutpile, ill have to contact them
-
Wolf Track your post has got me totally excited to go. I look forward to meeting everyone in the near future. LIke I said before, if I can't get a tag I'd still love to go and help pack out some meat for some of you and be able to see some of the scenery.
-
About proof of hunter ed. I filled out the paperwork today. It cost 8 bucks just for info.
-
Whew! Searched my boxes of un packed stuff and found my AK hunter's Ed card... Good to go, got the kid's too... Ought to meet with a copuple of you from MV/North Bend to see if you want to establish a share ride of sorts...
-
I see we have Cohoho, NW Eric, Little Dave, and myself from the Hwy 18 corridor contingent. We'll have to meet up after Christmas.
-
Let me know when you guys get together, and Ill see if Quick Draw and I can make it. :chuckle:

Ok, got the hunter ed card in the mail today . That was easy and only took 5 days. If any of you lost your card from when you were a kid just go to fish and game and fill out the paperwork, it's that easy.

This is a good time to see if your boots are going to keep your feet warm in Wyoming with this snow and storm coming tonight and tomarrow. I think I'm going to do some rabbit hunting tomarrow :IBCOOL: in this snow :chuckle:

This is a fun hunt if every one makes it such...
I will tell you now that every one needs to go prepared for "EXTREME" cold weather (-20-30 isn't at all uncommon)
I talked with Bill a couple weeks ago and Tony or Erin only need contact him to possibly get the ball rolling on places to stay
I will say, even though you guys are looking at a couple years in advance, you need to have a place rented at least a year in advance to guarantee the facility you want
Make certain you have good rigs with good tires (it's very possible to get 12-18" of snow that time of year per night)
I know with the snow you guys have been getting in the last week or so, it’s a good time to test those things you wish to take along
Also, with this much advance warning, it’s a good time to start collecting the types of clothing you will need for the cold weather...
I would shy away from any sort of cotton in your wearing apparel, if it gets wet or damp; this causes problems that could be life threatening if any of you step away from the road
You will be required to have bear spray, and there is absolutely "NO" pistols allowed in the park...
Hope this helps some and if any of you guys have any questions between now and then, fell free to ask...
I've been hunting these sorts of environments for many years now and been on this particular hunt twice (both being successful)....
-
Good post and great info Russ.
We did have a good time on the last hunt we had. Good food and real great people. If I remember right only two people didn't get an elk, but got shots at them.
I'm going to try to give Bill a call this week to get the name of the rental place we stayed last time.
Good luck on those Burbots. Try them smoked, (it'll knock your socks off )
Hunterman(Tony)
-
Thanks Tony...
I'm heading down by Dillon tomorrow morning and see what I can get...
I'm kind of excited, I like ice fishing and this is a new fish for me to go after...
I'm normally after trout (Arizona's term for trout is "gay bass" for any one interested in that tid bit)
The trout we got last time was very fat and about 20"
I also got one Burbot (for any one interested) that was about 24"...
I was a little surprised when I pulled it up as I've never seen one before, they look like a catfish and eel mix...
Pretty ugly, but extremely good table fare...
-
Great info in this post. I've already decided on buying some new cold weather gear after tromping around in the snow during late archery and freezin my arse off.
-
Warm and weather proof is the way to go..Make sure that your boots ARE WATER PROOF, and bring extra pairs. We need the snow to bring the elk out of Yellowstone :chuckle:

I just got off the phone with Mountain Property Management about the condo(s) that we will be staying in.
As of todays pricing the total cost for one condo is $2,560.00 for 10 nights. This is for condo # 35 (the one we stayed in in 2003) It will hold up to 6 people (maybe more 8) ) If need be we can get anothercondo, ( # 11) at $175.00 per night.
Remember that this is at this years prices. It may go up next year, or it might drop depending on the economy.
Here in a link for the place
Mountain Property Management
Golf Creek Ranch #11
Golf Creek Ranch #35
They are nice condos..

Hey Russ,, can you send me Bills phone number?? The ones I have are too old.

I'm still in, I'm already stashing money aside for this. I'm also not beyond sleeping on the floor if need be.
-
Starting next Monday, I will start getting everything together as far as condo cost, and hopefully tag cost. Although it might be a year away, I am starting to get excited..
