Title: Central ferry crappie?
Post by: hunt_fish on April 08, 2014, 09:26:44 AM
Does anyone know if the crappie fishing around central ferry is still good and when the best time to fish it is? I'm guessing late April into June?  I've never fished that far over but I remember reading about it a couple years ago how it's good, I just don't want to trek over there and not catch any when there's spots closer where I can catch a couple at least. I know if anything, I can always catch some bass there from shore.

Where or what is, central ferry ?

It's on the snake river past Lyons ferry. I think it's another 45 minutes to an hour east of Lyons ferry.

Fishing is still kinda slow.  Let me ask a few of the guys who crappie/bass fish and I'll let you know what I find out.

Haha no not the county and thanks sumpnneed. I'd expect it to be slow still, I went out on a Columbia river slough the other day and nothing was in there yet. Couldn't even get a nibble where I usually catch bass and panfish

Isn't Central Ferry closed, I seem to remember reading something about that.

The campground at Central Ferry is no more.  It's been turned into a Habitat Management Unit.  Closest camping is at the Deadman Creek store beyond that is Pomeroy or Starbuck.  There is a boat ramp on the opposite side of the river at the Port of Garfield County next to the grain elevators.  Next closest would be Willow Landing, just upstream.

Be careful on the grain elevator ramp there are wash out holes deeper than your trailer tire I've seen more than one trailer get buggered up.  Also last I was there you should also keep an eye out for exposed nails along the dock that stick out and can injure you or your boat.  Just fyi
