Title: Titlow launch for salmon or other options at my disposal. Please advise
Post by: DoubleJ on April 12, 2014, 07:39:17 AM
Thinking about putting in at Titlow tomorrow and trying for blackmouth.  Any advice would be helpful.  This will be my first attempt at salmon since I was a boy on my dad's boat so I'm going a lot by memory and what I have been reading.  I don't have a large boat or motor so I'm also trying to stay safe.  It looks like it's bigger water there than anywhere I've been so far.  I would be putting in about 2 hours before high tide and fishing until about 2 hours after high tide.

My other three options, and I'd like to hear about each if you have information are:

Putting in at Manchester and guiding the boat 45-60 minutes south into Colvos Passage but that's a hell of a haul for my boat.

The other option is putting in at the marina in Grapeview and fishing Case Inlet.  I've heard the silvers in there are nice in late summer but, it's April and I'm not sure there are any blackmouth in there.

Lastly, I can put in near Dabob Bay and fish in there at the northern end of MA12.

Thoughts?

I fish area 13- not a lot until late July/August these days...blackmouth's gotten pretty scratchy...

Coming from Shelton?
Nothing wrong with going up to Narrows to put in, but I don't see an advantage really, at least this time of year.

You could launch at Zittle's Marina which puts you very near Johnson Point and a short run from Devil's Head and Lyle Point at the s. end of Anderson Is. I would say those are the 3 most well known spots down there that might hold blackmouth. Granted it's not like I've heard of any good reports lately.

For Johnson Pt. I'd fish the west side on incoming, east side on outgoing. Devils Head and Lyle fish the down current side on either tide.

If you put in at Case Inlet, I'd fish for searun cutthroat- which could be decent bet for action btw.

Don't know bupkis about the Dabob option. Manchester seems like a looong boat ride to area 13...
Hope it helps you narrow down your choices.

Thanks for the info.  The Manchester launch would have us run about half an hour into MA 11, not all the way to 13.  We'd fish Colvos Passage, just south of the Southworth ferry launch.  Has the Northern end of MA 11 been producing does anyone know?  Or the south end for that matter.  I can put in at Narrows too and head a bit north.

LOL.  Soccer ran late today so we'll have to wait for another time.  The more I read, the more is seems like our best bet is going to be launching at Manchester and heading just south of Southworth into MA 11or over to the NE corner of Vashon if the water is polite until MA 10 opens up and then hit the Southworth/Vashon/Blake Island triangle after that.
