All of my trail cameras are homebrews. The camera that is taking these cougar pictures is a Sony DSC-W90 8.1 mega pixels. Most of my cameras are Sony W200's, 12.1 mega pixels. I buy my cameras used on ebay, and I buy the control board and Pelican case at Yeticam.com.
I have permission to pick up road killed deer from the highway where we live here in the foothills. I can use these deer with my cameras, but I am always reminded that baiting is illegal. So sitting and watching these carcasses with a rifle is not an option. I enjoy the pictures that I get this way, and I would never do anything to lose this privilege.
This cougar is eating a small whitetail buck that was killed on November 5th. I picked up that buck and set it up with one of my cameras on November 10th. Here is a picture that I took when I set up that camera watching the buck.

When the cougar found the deer Saturday night, the deer had been dead for 17 days, and the eagles and magpies has been feeding on it for 12 days. Saturday night and early Sunday morning, I got 306 pictures of this cat feeding on the carcass.

Looks like your getting the evil eye. :yike: Photo of the month material!!!!
-
It's legal to bait for cougar by the way...not sure if using road kill is legal to bait with, but I know baiting them is...provided the season is open. Great freaking pics again man.
-
I want to arrow a cat sooooo bad!
-
i saw those pictures two days ago someone sent them to my dad in an email, what part of the blues is that?
-
great pics
-
awsome pics... wish me and my partner had set ups with trail cams. nice work, thanks for posting those. always a treat to get pics of big cats.
-
That is awesome!!! How much do your cameras cost to set up? Would you be willing to post a tutorial on how to build one of your trail cameras? I think that is something that alot of people would be interested in. Thanks for sharing.
-
Great pics!! I couldn't sleep at night knowing my cam was out in the open like that. Must be way back in there or off the beaten path a ways. I hide my homebrew cams very well and only put them on big trees to prevent someone from cutting the tree down (without a ton of effort!).
-
Great pics those are awesome.

Here is a tutorial that I posted on a homebrew site. I would be more than happy to assist anyone interested in getting into this. It is fun, and after you get through your first camera build, it is very easy.

Thanks for posting the link Bones, I am sure I will have plenty of questions for you in the future. This sounds like a project I would like to undertake sometime after all the Christmas chaos.

-
Beautiful cat and pictures! Thanks for sharing them.

Well your famous now. I just received an email from my mom, she knows I have been out trying to get a mountain lion. The title just says "Cougar" and then in the Body it says this:
"The email stated that these pictures were taken with a home made trail camera above Blue Creek, east of Walla Walla, WA."
And then your lion pics are there. Congrats you made it to one of those circulating emails where eventually all the info will be completely wrong and some jerk will be claiming he took them. Throw me your email and I will forward the email I got.
-
Why can't I see the pics?
-
thats pretty cool
-
Your famous. Look on the general hunting page of Monster muleys new topic with your pictures.
