Title: Help on how to get the lead out?
Post by: bracer40 on April 14, 2014, 04:43:09 PM: I've been helping my girlfriend's mom clean out a household with 47 years of accumulation. One of the items we discovered was a crate full of lead ingots. I'm estimating there is about 700 pounds or so. She lives in Walla Walla.
Does anyone have any input on how she can get a fair deal for this material.
We checked on value and understand it's going for about .95 a pound.

Post by: Dansk on April 14, 2014, 05:24:27 PM: One option is to advertise it on craigslist- lot's of guys pouring downrigger weights for resale looking for the stuff.

Most metal recycling facilities will buy it, however there are many different kinds of lead. Only pure will bring the high price, but if they are real ingots like suppliers provide for manufacturing companies you should be good to go. Most will run it through some sort of test to find out how good/pure it is.

Lots of places on the westside... not sure about eastside- try googling scrap metal or metal recycling. I'm sure they are there.

Post by: cohoho on April 14, 2014, 05:49:36 PM: About .60-.75 a lb around Kent/Seattle depending upon where you look... .95 might be for pure pour ingots, but not what they'd be willing to pay at a scrap yard for sure. Best guess at a yard you'd get .50-60 cents per lb.. Best might be like mentioned- to sell for sinkers, some will give you up to buck a lb, but you'll have to sell in small quantities...

Most guys looking for lead to cast bullets will need to know if it is pure lead or has had some tin or other metal added. Any markings on the ingots? Some guys scribe a number or letter to indicate what the ingot was cast from.

I'm 99.99% sure the lead was intended to be used for reloading or muzzleloading as my friend's dad built his own muzzleloaders, and reloaded for shotguns and rifles/handguns.

What price are you looking to get for it? I'd be interested in 100-200lbs
