After reading some threads and posts on here, I ordered a bottle of Sawyer Permethrin off of Amazon and it arrived yesterday. Having -0- experience with this stuff, I read the instructions. Geez...not what I was expecting. Mostly it seems like if it comes in contact with skin it will pretty much melt it off and leave me burning up...instructions say don't inhale it, if it comes into contact with skin, rinse it for 15-20 minutes with water, etc. My question is, is this stuff worth it? I'm not totally against chemicals and stuff, but this stuff seems really gnarly. I've used regular old bug spray in the past. I've had plenty of ticks on me, they don't freak me out and I'm not worried about Lyme out here yet. I grew up in deer tick country and am very familiar with Lyme.
So who uses it and who doesn't?
Honestly I'm leaning towards not using it.

I had similar concerns and have gotten it on my skin just washed it off. Go to their website and read about it, not as bad as it seems. Look up the chemical permethrin as well. Did you get the aerosol kind or the kind that comes in a spray bottle?
I got a 12 ounce spray bottle that says it's good for 2 outfits. An outfit is pants, shirt and socks.

The warning labels on the cans or bottles are often misunderstood. Your skin metabolizes, or breaks down, Permethrin within fifteen minutes of contact with skin. Therefore, it is of no value to you as a personal protection insect repellent when applied to the skin. In addition, the EPA precautionary statement, “Do Not Apply to Skin” indicates that Permethrin is ineffective when applied to skin; therefore, do not apply to skin.

I've used it for turkey season for several seasons in a row now. I spray it on my outer layers, not socks or undies, and especially around cuffs and zippers etc. It works! I don't even think about ticks when I'm out. The warnings are scary but I don't think its as bad as it sounds. I use latex gloves when applying and try to spray downwind. One bottle usually doesn't cover two sets of clothes, IMO.:yeah:
I used it last year on my spring bear hunt in the blues and it worked well. I also bought some rinoskins from bass pro ( I hate ticks). My bro in law did the same. We were in and out of brush for a week and no ticks so I assumed it worked. I also used plastic gloves when applying and had no issues. They say that once it's dry it's harmless to humans.
