Well, it's time to dust off the calls and get your practice on folks. The first annual Elknut Elk Calling Contest will kick into high gear on 19 May 2014. Feel free to contact me with any questions you have. Good luck to all who decide to participate in the first annual Elknut Elk Calling Contest! RJ
-
Are you folks practicing? It's only three weeks till the contest window opens :)... Really hoping for a bunch of contestants for this first ever Elknut Elk Calling contest. It's looking like there will be some very good prizes for the top callers.
-
A mere two weeks away from the first annual Elknut Elk Calling Contest. Hope everyone is practicing 8) Trips to Hawaii, new quads, musky trips to the land of 1000 lakes, free guided elk hunts in the wilds of Montana... well, those aren't any of the prizes but I'm pretty sure there are some good ones worth trying for :D RJ
-
Sounds like a lot of fun. Its a good thing I'm better at killing elk than calling elk :chuckle:
-
One week till the contest window opens :whoo:.

Do you know if they will be giving any feed back to people who enter? I would like some helpful critism in some areas that people like tha know there stuff. If not I will still be entering thanks.

Probably not specific, individual feedback for the contest itself. There are four judges and they will all rate each clip based on the established point system. Once the points are tallied, I'll release the final results. That said, there are always some top tier guys that are willing to receive a hunter's elk sound recording, and, provide feedback on ways to improve. Best of luck in the contest! Should be a lotta fun. RJ

are video clips from your phone good enough for a submission?

Need the file converted to MP3/MP4 before submission please. I did a quick search and there are quite a few free converters one can download (if in fact, you need to convert a VID to one of the MP formats).
-
Sounds like may not get a lot of entries with having to convert files. Sometimes this can be difficult if you don't know how. Just saying.

thats what i was looking into as well i mean if i can turn my lights off in my house with my cell phone i should be able to figure out how to convert a file, i was suggesting a video maybe to show proof of the contestent doing it all by themselves, also might be comedic watching people switch out mouth reeds and all sorts of fumbling around for that one min. just my :twocents:

Just sound clips are acceptable folks. Don't want to see your ugly mugs anyway; that could possibly lower your score ;). The prizes that are being donated are "well worth" the time/effort to figure out how to record and submit a sound clip, trust me.
-
Allrighty folks, the prizes for the first ever, Elknut Elk Calling Contest have pretty much been locked and cocked ;) Vortex Optics, Elk Mountain Gear Slip System (with cover of choice), Wyoming Saw, Clip Shot, Glacier Country Hunting Calls, Wapiti River Outdoors Calls/Bugle Tubes, and perhaps a few more items.
The contest window opens this Monday, 19 May. If you have any questions on the contest rules/procedures, send me a note.

If we don't have an Elknut forum tag, can we include our Hunt WA tag?

You don't have to be an Elknut forum member to participate in the contest. However, that is where the results will be posted after the entry window closes ;).

"Now, I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? To tell you the truth, I forgot myself in all this excitement. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you have to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya..........".
Sorry, forgot what I was going to say. I meant to say: Now I know what you're thinking... "it's only day one of the first annual Elknut Forum, Elk Calling Contest. I've recorded a few clips that sound pretty good but why submit so early? I mean, after all, there's a bunch of days left to send my clip in, right?"
Well callers, how about the very next submission/clip I receive at the sstribute68@gmail.com email can claim the first prize of this "prize packed" contest. Your choice of either a Wapiti River Outdoors Pink Lady Cow Call, or, a Wapiti River Outdoors Bull Buster. Your move :D

Update on submission format. I figured out how to convert a Sound cloud link to an audio file, so, if you just wish to send a Sound cloud link for your entry, you may. I'll convert your Sound cloud recording to an audio clip and get it to the other judges. RJ
Oh, I received a pretty nice box-o-goods from Vortex Optics in the mail yesterday. Just saying
-
One week left to get your submission in folks... hoping see a good handful come my way over the weekend ;)
-
The contest window doesn't close until this Friday so there's still time to get your audio clip, or, sound cloud link submitted (I'll convert your soundcloud link to an audio file and get it to the judges). In addition to some pretty awesome top prizes (Vortex optics, EMG Slip System, new model Wyoming Saw, Clipshot, elk tubes, calls, etc., "each" entry will receive a free elk diaphram, perhaps two, dependent on the amount of entries ;)...

Do you know what type of file the voice recordings are on iPhones?

Do you know what type of file the voice recordings are on iPhones?
Using a voice memo recording with an Iphone results in an M4A file.. Yes sir, it works just fine for our contest purposes!
How to: Go to utilities, voice memo, click on red record button and do your elk noise thing 8). When you've got the clip recorded you like, name your sound file (you can also wait to name the file until you've sent it to your email). Choose the share icon and send the file from your phone to your email address. Save to desktop, ensure the sound file is good to go, and forward it to the email on the contest flyer. Good luck!
-
Sounds good. I'll go home and serenade the neighbors with some herd talk
-
Allrighty, last reminder. The contest entry window closes tomorrow. Get your clips sent in. You never know, you just may win something pretty cool :IBCOOL:
-
whens the absolute last min we can send in our clips?
-
Need your clips today please. If anybody is having trouble sending them, please let me know via PM and we can work it out. Thanks.. RJ
-
Tic toc, tic toc. Send your elk noises in :)
-
Submitted mine, 20 seconds per category goes quick!
-
When will results be posted?
-
Hoping to have the final results posted by mid week. I'll get them up as soon as I get all the scores from the judges.
-
Uh oh, I've got the total averages from all the judges and have finalized the results... but.... yawn, I'm so dang tired, I suppose I'll wait until tomorrow or next week to announce them.... ;) Perhaps I'll post them up over "that a way" if anybody is interested. Man, I'd sure like to keep these Vortex Binos for myself. I could really use a pair of new optics for my ID hunt this fall.

Bring them to Idaho---I could use some excellent Vortex glass, too!!
Thanks for the contest. Looking forward to the results.
-
I'm anxious for the results as well. Was fun trying but def need to get something better than my phone to record with.
-
Results are posted up on the Elknut forum...it's been fun 8)
-
