well what almost turned out to be a bust do to a coyote coming to the decoy while a nice big Tom is strutting 50 yards away turned out to be a hunt that my daughter and myself will never forget. We arrived at a new spot at 4:00am thinking where should we set up because we didn't really now where they were roosting at. I found a cattle trail that looked like a good place were they might be traveling so we ended up setting are ground blind and sticking the Primos B-mobil out with a lone hen at about 5 yards do to the slopping bank, I tolled my daughter that if one comes in your gonna have to be right on. At about 5:15am we heard are first gobble and then two more, they were roosting on the other side of the river. I gave out a couple of clucks just to let them know we were here and they responded then one of the hens started to get really aggressive so I just matched her every time she lit off. After about 20 minutes of this my daughter says "dad there's some hens to are left coming are way down the trail" I tolled her to get ready and don't move! I let out a soft cluck and "Gobble Gobble Gobble" I peeked through the side window and could see a nice Tom strutting behind the hens about 50 yards, I looked at her and said here he comes then all of the sudden a hen starts puttin and then two of them fly up in a tree, I'm thinking they couldn't see us so what was going on! I peeked through the window again and there walking down the trail was a coyote pup, he stopped and looked and then came right up to the decoy and just stared at it. I whispered don't move, the coyote started to just walk away and didn't even mess with the decoy. I thought it was all over until the two hens flew straight down, I gave out a soft purr and then "Gobble Gobble Gobble" I said here he comes! He strutted right up to the decoy spittin and drummin I whispered just take breath and squeeze "BOOM" down goes the big tom! "I got him "I got him" she says while shaking as I'm giving her a high five "Gobble Gobble Gobble" to are right and there stands two really nice Jake's I said don't move they might come in so I gave out a few aggressive purrs Gobbled again then came a running to us. The biggest Jake started to fight with her bird, she asked me are you going to shoot "BOOM" game over, what a memorable hunt that we will never forget! The Tom weight 21.5lbs. with a 9" beard 1"spurrs and the Jake was 17lbs.
