Well I guess I should write a story with this one. So one evening we load up the kids after I get of work, and drop them off and the grandparents house like most of us have to do. So we drive out to our local spot an old homestead that was abandoned about fifty years ago. there is a large field with an old crappy house that sits on the fields edge. We had our five year old with us and we just hung out behind the farm house, every now and then peeking out to see if any deer had entered the field yet. ( I had been seeing a decent two point there which I thought she should shoot, but she was a little reluctant, after a couple hours of griping at her she agreed to go out and kill it) So right before dark I peek out and there are about 10 deer in the field about 200 yards of. I look through the scope, because some *censored* left the binos in the truck (me), and in the fading light I just see a big (set) of horns. Big buck , big buck, I tell her and I get her resting in the prone position on couple coats i had piled up. This is where the story turns in to a bit of a fiasco. the buck enters the field and as she is getting settled he bust into the group of does grunting and runs half of them down over the hill into the oaks. damn it I think because light is fading fast. So know there are about four does and the two point feeding in the field, so we wait. I am scanning the edge of the trees hoping he will show him self again. A minute later I see movement and the buck come throught the buck brush and looks out into the field. I get her on him and tell her to shoot him in the white patch of his throat. She tells me she can't hold steady on it. the buck walks back into the brush.@#$%. that's it I thought, game over. A minute later, movement again. It's him. This time he decides to walk out to the other deer. Big mistake. " you on him...right behind the sholder, shoot shoot shoot him." I "told" her. she told me to shut up about 20 times during that conversation. BOOM, smack. I could hear the bullet hit him. " $%#@, you hit him" It was about 200 yards. we watched him fall over after about 50 yards. double lunger. Funky horns. 4 by some other stuff. Kinda webbed out fingers on it, don't know. any thoughts, just deformed. Couldn't find any old injusries. There was a piece of wood stuck in the good horn. Maybe damaged during velvet. any thoughts.

congrats on the deer looks like it was probably injured while still in velvet

Congrats!!!to the wife, nice buck, smile on the kid......priceless.

That is an awsome looking buck. Looks like that deer was injured in velvet. One side broke off and continued to grow a bit and you can see damage on the other antler. Wonder what he would have looked like if he hadn't injured his velvet horns.
Ohh, and by the way I probably would have told you to shut up 20 times too. :chuckle: Not picking on you at all but if she wasn't coumfy with the shot at the time hearing you telling her to shoot over and over again is just going to agrivate her more to where she can't calm down and make a good shot.

Congratulations to your wife. I really like a funky lookin rack with some character like that.

I forget sometimes that she hasn't been doing this as long as me or shot nearly as much. She was born and raised in OC california, so this is quite a change for her. I am damn proud of her though. Her buck was bigger than mine last year, and she is gonna be hard to beat this year, we'll see in a few days. Thanks for the comments, I relay all of them to her, even though she thinks I am a damn woman for being on the sight all the time. :)
