Title: Iowa Gobblers (Other one isn't working)
Post by: jbeaumont21 on April 28, 2014, 01:28:21 PM
Went back to my home state of Iowa and did some turkey hunting.  The gobblers were going crazy and didn't take long to put my tag on a big ole eastern.  He weighed in at just over 25.8 lbs.  Not the longest beard or spurs but definitely my heaviest tom to date.  My dad and his buddy also both got their toms the same morning.  The area we hunt had an explosion in the turkey population, I've never seen and heard so many toms before in my life.  Check out the video we taped as we were heading out to hunt. Sorry I know its a little shaky.  Turns out this was right off the road surrounded by public land.

To top off a perfect day, dad and I went out and caught our limit of walleyes that evening. Surf and turf buddy!

I know right!!!  That was my 5 year old daughters introduction to turkey hunting.  I believe by Iowa law I legally could have walked to the edge of the highway and shot one pretty easily, but where is the sport in that :)

Great birds!   I am just flying home from Iowa.   Attended 95 year old Grandma's funeral.   She spent her whole life in Clayton County ( east Iowa).   I saw quite a few turkeys out and about there too!

Nice too see there are other Iowan's on this site.  Great place to be born and raised from and then move away out west for bigger game :)

Used to drive through Cresco all the time heading to Decorah to trout fish.  Some good turkey hunting in those parts with all them hills.

St Charles is nice too, my grandparents live near Winterset by Pammel State Park.  Loaded with deer and turkey in that area. In a perfect life I would have a place in both states.

Sorry Haugenna can't say much about Manly:chuckle:.  Lots of corn and beans and I used to date a girl from there  :dunno:

What was her name?  A graduating class of 44, you know everybody in the entire town and most of the people in the surrounding towns.

You are right.  I went to Luther College in Decorah and fished a lot of tributaries to the Upper Iowa river for trout.

Her name was Tina something, can't remember the last name.  Cute little blonde girl. This would have been back in 1992-3ish.

Nice!  They will kill some birds for sure, 4th season should be real good there this year.  Iowa seem about 2 weeks behind this year on spring arriving, everything was still brown when I was there.

That's a nice area around Pammel.  I was married in the park- it's beautiful.

Good to see some Iowans out this way! :)
