I have a little elk hunting trip planned w/ my muzzleloader tomorrow. Problem is I can't shake the stupid cold that I've had for over 1 week now.
I now have congestion in my chest, I've lost my voice, and I keep hacking up phlem. When I cough, I'm getting this nasty, thick, disgusting, yellowish phlegm out of my lungs.
I already cancelled a day trip of elk hunting w/ my partner last Friday in hopes of resting and getting the cold to go away. I thought I was just about over it couple days ago and then yesterday the snot just started flowing and I started coughing again and today I wake up weezing and hacking up this nasty stuff.
So, now that you guys are about ready to :puke: after reading my description, what do you think? Should I stay home and just go elk hunting when I get better? I wanted to go Wed. because it seems like there would be less hunters out there.
Thanks

Hit a walk in clinic and get some antibotics..call it good...get well

I like the replies so far. I plan on showing the results to my wife; then I can say "See, everyone on HuntWA says I should go". ;)

go to the doc and get some antibiotics you will be fine

Last season I was sick...and this year turkey hunting I had a flu like bug going....you gotta go! = )

I was sick with a cold two weekends or so ago, ears pluggin up (which is a big deal for me...since they have ruptured 5 times each), coughing, etc...went deer hunting with my bro over in Twisp...waded through a river up to my waist and hunted for several hours afterwards, just took some sudafed (the stuff behind the counter, not the stuff in the isles) and alkaseltzer...I think it helped being out really...

hey you can't kill'em if you are at home. Sick or not....... Go for it. I could not waste a day sick or not... :twocents:

I guess the right thing to do would be to stay home and take care of your self.
If it were me I would already be out hunting. :chuckle:

I better go 4 you!! I was out all day climbing ridges the size of mt.saint hellno!! I felt like crap all day and pretty much still do...sneezing while typing!!! Seen lots of elk but did'nt close the deal....so worth it!!

Well, we made it out elk hunting on Wednesday and half a day today. I didn't even have to show my wife this poll or even tell her about it. She just said "You really should stay home." And I said, no.....I should go hunting. That was that.......she didn't even argue :).
We didn't see any elk today, but Wednesday we really got into them. I got into the middle of a herd in some reprod; there was over 20 elk in there, but all I saw were cows and spike bulls.......no 3 points to be seen. Then later in the morning we walked up onto another herd of elk......there were 5 spikes and one 2 point in the herd.

you can get sick any old time; you can only hunt during elk season - go hunting. Puke downwind and you're good.

I have gone with a broken ankle (slowed me down, but still hunting) and a broken foot (stupid trail-bike) and several severe colds. NOTHING has stopped me from going except my daughters birth (water broke opening day, as I was getting ready to roll) If it dont kill you, it will only make you stronger. If it does kill you, at least you will die happy.

Whats a little walking pneumonia amongst friends.
Mt Bike accident a few years back,I dislocated my left shoulder and tore the rotator cuff on opening day of deer season. Opening of elk was 21 days away. Did you know its possible to kill a bull shooting one-armed,and skin it too boot. Thank goodness for parachute cord. Got mine that opening day. :IBCOOL:
So never ever let a little thing like sickness or injury stop you from Elk hunting. :chuckle:
