Going to start to hook up the new Lowrance into the Lady Becky ll . I have never put one in before so this is going to be an experience. This will be the final major improvement to her, and then I'm ready to go :IBCOOL: A month early :IBCOOL:

After reading some of the book, I think I should have started this 30 years ago :yike:

LOL! Don't let the book intimidate you. Installation is a breeze if you get just the basics from the book and let common sense take over to do the rest. Does the unit have an external GPS receiver? If so, make sure that you mount it where you are not going to hit it or get your fishing lines caught up in it when casting.

If this rain ever lets up I can get the transducer mounted, and then I can start programing. The GPS receiver is internal.
I got the unit mounted before momma told me we had to do some running around :bash: I hardly ever get anything done with her bossing me round :bash: Of course I'd never tell her that.

You may find that you want to put an external antenna on that. With any roof over the receiver, the Lowrances sometimes drop satellites. You get a lot quicker pick up and more accuracy with the external antenna. Unfortunately for me, my new Lowrance won't recognize the LGC 3000 antenna that my last Lowrance used.
Side by side on my dash, the Humminbird locks on much fastewr than the Lowrance. Even my old handheld Garmin GPSIII from the 90's locks on quicker.
I do like the NMEA accessories like the fuel flow meter that the Lowrances can use though.

:yeah: regarding the external antennae. What model of Lowrance did you get?

I have the Lowrance Elite-7HDI(Hybrid Dual Imaging) Fishfinder + Chartplotter.

I had that exact model on my boat. Easy install, and the internal GPS receiver on those are great. Never had a problem with losing signal even though I had it tucked in under my windshield.
The HDI wants the transducer mounted "just so" though, so you may need to play around with mounting height and angle. I got mine tuned up to the point I could still get a great sonar picture in 150 FOW at cruise speed. Great unit, will change the way you fish.
Have fun with it
