So I planned a elk hunting/scouting trip for the next couple days in the coweeman unit that i have been trying to get to since the 19th. So today I had the truck all loaded up, cooler full of food, and was excited to try and bag my first elk. So since i was locked and loaded and ready to go i figured i would head down to the local pub to shoot a game of pool with my dad before i took off, and my g#* damn back goes out on me!! during my break shot.....haha straight to the floor I went. Geeez i tell ya, now i know how those deer/elk feel cause it felt like someone shot my square in the back. So looks like the hunt trip is going to have to wait tell next weekend...At least i have that cooler full of beer to keep me company next to the couch ;)

Rudedog the only thing you missed was an ass load of people. WHere did all the people come from. It looks like rifle season up there. ANd most of the the guys have orange on??? Are they afraid they will get shot??? Been hunting the cow a long time and i have never seen anyone in orange untill this year, and we have seen alot of people in orange...
We were getting our gear on to make a hike, and a guy drives up and askes me and my brother if we are going to hike in this weather, like we are crazy. I told him you have to get out of the truck to see animals. They were waiting for better weather to get the animals closer to the road. Lots and lots of people this year, more than i can remember ever during the late season.

We were up there Sunday and saw a few guys with orange, driving around.
Since we were on the Toutle/Coweeman boundary we assumed the orange must be the guys with Toutle rifle cow permits? :dunno:
We looked it up in the regs and there are 150 permits with a season of Nov 19-30.

Bobcat, the guys we have talked to in orange have coweeman cow tags. And they have been hunting in the coweeman unit. I havn't been near the border yet.

Really? Well that's just weird. Never seen muzzleloader hunters wearing orange before. Maybe some that we saw were muzzleloaders. I guess with the hundreds of hunters in the Coweeman maybe it's not a bad idea.

Very weird, in all the years we have been hunting the coweeman we have never once seen anybody in orange, now this year we have seen at least 15 people in orange.
