Title: new shrimp fisherman
Post by: MatthewHunter98 on May 06, 2014, 04:27:58 PM
Hey everyone, I'm new to the shrimping field, but expert other fisherman and hunter. I'm wanting to go out tomorrow and was planning on just winging it and dropping in minimum of 200+ feet. I'm going to area 9 to ling cod fish as well. For those of you who are willing to help out a fellow fisherman will I have good luck near fowl weather bluff, or wear near should I drop the pots

Never shrimped up there, but I'd wait to drop until I found a concentration of other pots.

What are you using for bait?

If you're planning to fish too, you will need to stay somewhat in the neighborhood of your pots.  It's not like crabbing where you can leave your pots for hours and the crab will still be there.  The shrimp will swim out as soon as the bait is gone.  You want bait that bleeds out fairly fast to attract the shrimp.  Pull your pots every hour or so, and the bait should be at least half gone by then.

If your pots have good weight to them and you have additional floatation on the surface you can drop your pots on the deep drop offs around Possesion Bar. I've never shrimped there myself but I've heard its fishable. Good luck! I'll be out in area 10 in the morning.
