Title: Lingcod in MA - 11
Post by: Smossy on May 09, 2014, 09:42:37 AM
Me and my Buddy are looking to take his boat out for the first time into the sound for some lingcod action.
My question is  - is there any decent sized lings even in area 11? Gonna just run some shrimp flys "If we can find any" and jig off the bottom with them.
If anyone has any general area's on some locations maybe near Point Defiance or Des Moines area shoot me a PM please.

Smossy,,, I use to fish the Narrows from the point side. As you come around the point you'll see some power lines going across the Narrows. Fish from the shore line out to the 3rd orange ball on the lines. I would try to start in about 20 feet of water, from the shore line to the bridge. Stay on the Tacoma side(East side) of the Narrows. Also see if you can jig some horse herring. Lings love those things.

I hit the Narrows on Sunday, notta for me  :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

Gonna try a spots or two around the Tacoma area tomorrow while shrimping  :dunno:
(old wreckage near the Barge Break water in Commencement Bay)

Also tried Tramp Harbor on Sat, around the Radio Tower, but that was a strike out too.

Thought about trying the break water out side of Desmoins Marina some time  :dunno:

Those little kokes would make good Ling  bait.

The break water in commencement bay use to be the spot till people found out about it and fished it out keeping all the big illegal females. The powerline by point Evans use to be good as well when you could fish deeper then 120'. I would stick the Tacoma side under the bridge. Tons of fish just lots of little ones you have to pick through. I have caught more 30lbs fish from Area 11 then I have in neah bay and la push. But I have also been fishing it for a long time. My uncle and dad have been fishing it for 45+ years. So we know how to do it. And it helps having your uncle work at the point defiance boat house for 40 years.

Fished the Narrows today after shrimping for the afternoon high tide.

No Lings  :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:

We did get 2 cabezone, one really small one and another about 18".

Hopefully one of these day we will get a ling out there  :fishin:
