Good looking dog. Can't say I know the breed though. Is he a big dog?
I think his sire's owner said the sire is about 55#. The mom is about 45#. He's gonna get bigger but not to big. My E. Setter's are 50# and 55# and he's not quite as big as them yet. This is the lone that was bred to get hunting back into Irish Setter's, around 1950 I believe it was. Some guy's got the best hunting Irish they could find and crossed it with Mississippi Zev, 1946 Nat Ch. They were allowed in AKC in the beginning after a certain number of breedings were made and in FDSB. But then the Irish Setter Club of America got upset and petitioned AKC to throw them out. Seem's they couldn't win their own trials anymore. Some strains stayed in AKC the rest are FDSB. They are registered as Irish Setter's but most the people that have them call them Red Setter's; don't want confused with the huge hairy AKC dogs. i've taken him out to several AKC trials outside Madras and the AKC people there really liked him.

Had a litter of pups back then from a female I trialed a little. She went into heat while with the guy who was handling her and other Red Setters back in Illinois. Well an up and coming young male got to her. Finished my four years in the Air Force in Charleston S.C., and picked her up in route home to Washington. I ended up with 13 pups.
Traded one of those pups to a fellow named Leonard House over by Sprague who wanted one. He also had Red Setters at the time. Tack was the best dog I ever had. Was my hunting buddy while I went to the University of Idaho and then on to the Moses Lake area where I started my career with WDFW.
Had a picture somewhere of him. Just can't locate it at the moment, but here's a picture of a Red Setter I clipped that is almost identical in appearance. Tack didn't have quite as much white on the chest, just a small spot. Rest pretty much the same. He was approximately 45 lbs. wet...lol. Tack also had a 12 o'clock tail. As a side note, the first pheasant he was on as a pup, he was naturally steady to wing and shot (blank pistol).
Great dogs and wonderful companions. Keep us posted on his upcoming adventures.
His littermate looks like a dandy as well. :tup:
