We've dinked around a bit, testing things out but today was his first salmon fishing trip and look what he finds

Nice! I think I just about ate my first one all by myself. It was the best fish ever!
Did you catch it trolling or jigging? Tell the master angler "Congratulations" from Lorraine and I. We are very happy for him!

 There's a happy kid!

Awesome!!! Congrats!! Now go get him a ling!

Trolling. Got the downriggers figured out. I would like to get some 15lb balls in the future though. These 10lb ones ride too high. One downrigger only has 120ft of cable and as high as the balls ride, i'm only getting about 85 feet down

Have to get the motor fixed (again). I have it in the garage, stored laying on the floor, prop down like always and from the prop, it's leaking oil. I'm not happy

Nice job on the black mouth  When I fished the bay I would run a meatline with only a 6 pound weight, and had to learn to slow my troll down. When running a flasher I would watch the meatline until I got a steady throb on it. I would run the line between (now this is a little known secret so don't let it out ) 150' to 180'. I'll PM you my other depths

If you have manual downriggers and I'm guessing you do if that's your boat in the back of the truck, I wouldn't recommend 15 lbs. cannonballs unless your built like Schwartzenager or want to be. You WILL notice the difference retrieving the 15's over the 10's, might consider 12's but they'll have blowback to and probably wont make a lot of difference over the 10's. :twocents:

Point well taken. I found a pretty accurate blowback calculator that I have on my phone now and will use in the future. Just need more cable now

Congrats! That`s a memory that he won`t soon forget.

Add this from last year

And he won't ever NOT fish for the rest of his life. I swear he's always talking about fishing or wanting to go, unless it's hunting season :chuckle:
