Title: Sol Duc
Post by: ffbowhunter on May 26, 2014, 01:47:39 PM
Anyone fish the Sol Duc?  I am going halibut fishing this week and planned to hit the Sol Duc in the afternoon.  Per the regs Salmon is open are they running this time of the year?

yeah the springers are running now.  Are you going by boat?  The bank areas aren't the greatest on the Sol Duc.  To keep anything you need to be below the hatchery outlet creek which is a little walk from the parking lot.  There are some spots like under bridges or you hike in from one of the Rayonier gates.  They are also in the Quilayute and you can hike down from the park campground.

Real spotty bank access.  Try off of Shuwah rd just south of maxfield rd.  There is a nice deep hole there.

The Springers are very hard to catch. But they love good eggs! They love seams along fast oxegen rich rapids.

If you know were and how to get into D3 there are some good spots in that lower stretch.  ;)

D3 is an acces road down low by Lyndecker.

They changed it last year as an emergency closure.  They said that the were getting low returns and needed to give the fish a safety zone.  So this year they just added it I guess figuring they would have low returns again.   :dunno:
