I Like My Meat Med Rare. I Know You Need To Cook Bear Meat Well Done. How Many People Are Actually Worried About Getting It Well Done, Or How Do You Cook Your Meat.
This Is The First Time We Have Had Bear Meat To Eat So It's All New To Me.
Anyone Know Someone Who Has Gotten Trichinosis From Eating Undercooked Meat?

Fully cook to be safe.
I have made jerky out of bear and it I didn't have any issues, but wouldn't recommend it.
Use a crockpot/slow cooker for all cuts and your meat will be nice and tender.

Cook it. Bear is #1 for trichinosis don't fool around.

I wouldn't eat it rare. :bdid:
We had a bear in camp and I was the cook. The other guys didn't get sick from the meat I cooked but I must not have washed my hands good enough or ate some undercooked bear meat. I woke up in the middle of the night when I sharted my shorts. I then spent a couple hours dealing with bouts of diarrhea. Very unpleasant situation. I am not sure if it was trichinosis. I felt ok about 8 hours later. My recommendation is to make sure it is all the way cooked and use good sanitation practices when handling your bear meat. The crock pot idea mentioned worked good for us. Delicious when done right!

I treat Bear meat like Pork. Cook it well.

I've heard that store bought pig meat is trichinosis free....vet care and all.
And I'd have no problem eat rare bear....if it's commercially raised!
I ate a couple bites of medium bear backstrap last year though....didn't get sick that I know of.
