Title: Alpine hike
Post by: Rider on June 05, 2014, 10:35:58 PM
Looking for a hike over the 7/4 long weekend. Looking to go up off the beaten path. Isolated is best. A lake to pick up supper from would be good but happy packing food in. Wildlife (esp elk/deer) is a bonus.

Not interested in joining the rest of the fray that weekend of those party camping.

How far off, what kind of terrain do you want to attack?

No rock climbing. Scrambling might be okay. But nothing requiring ropes, carabineers, or a climbing harness.
Not ready to climb Rainier yet. Hopefully, next year.

More interested in solitude.

I have only been around Wynoochee a few times, have not expansively explored but I do know there is an area called Klone Lakes up North of the reservoir.  Might be something to look into!  I believe it is a good hike up to em.

Up the Entiat. At the vey end of the road is a trail head. Myrtle lake (4mi) is the first, larch lakes (7 ish mi) is the second, then the ice lakes (13 ish mi) farther up. The trail up to myrtle is relatively easy. Lots of horses and occasional trail bike. Also up the icicle to 8 mi lake is amazing. Check out Wta.org, they will have tons of hikes and reviews.

You could always hop on the pct down off of white pass too.. Beautiful country and plenty of alpine lakes to fish and explore.. I believe it's in the William O. wilderness area.

well hrphm...... Not much into fly fishing yet. Haven't found a compact lightweight poll. I'd be c&r anyway. Gave up fishing long time ago because I got tired of the combat fishing crowds. Pm sent.

I'm driving down tonight and bunking in Yakima with a pre-dawn start.
