Hey guys (and gals I suppose),
I shot a really nice buck last week and wanted to post some pics and a short story to keep us all entertained. We all know that the "down time" is coming soon with most of the big game seasons ending and we'll have to settle for reading hunting stories, shooting birds or trying to find a big cat.
Here is a quick deer story to help thwart off the "off season blues"....
I have been on some very tough hunts in the past several years but I will tell you what. THIS hunt was not one of them. I won't glorify it and tell you about how far we hiked and how steep it was. I often find myself in those places but I finally got an easy one. We did hike a very steep and nearly dangerous hill that morning that I have killed some bucks on, but we only saw does and got tired so we were actually driving to relocate into some more mild terrain when we spotted this Bruiser from the truck. The next few mintues are kind of blurry but it did involve me missing and EASY 25 YARD SHOT!!!! I never thought I would get that close to a late season Mule Deer and my top pin is 35 yards. I shot right over him. He ran out to 70 yards and I hit him twice at 70 yards a couple of minutes later I was trying to get another arrow in him and he almost ran me over... it was cool seeing his rack lumbering over the grass walking towards me. I thought he would here my arrow "pluck" out of my quiver but I got drawn back and shot him tight behind the shoulder at 10 yards! He ran down the hill and front of me and zig-zagged a couple of times before tumbling down the hill another 50 yards or so. This is an awesome buck and I am really happy with him. This is exactly the buck I have been trying to get for years. It is my 5th 4x4 Archery Mule Deer in 6 years but by FAR my biggest one. Anyone who knows me will testify that I usually figure out how to do it the hardest way possible, but on this one I'll take the easy way!
He is very heavy, has 3" eye guards - 21.5" wide and the G4's are 9.5" long. Net typical 151".
Enjoy the pics!

THose pics don't do that buck justice. I saw it and put my hands on it when we met flyguide and his buddy in the entiat on the road. It is heavy and a beauty for a gen. tag. THanks for showing us that three point your buddy didn't want to stalk, we tried and he blew out when we were at 60yards. Went from bedded to a dead run all at once. Nice buck. Oh by the way we went 0fer 3 there . Did your buddy kill one? nwhunter

Congrats! I think you may of shot my bucks twin or younger brother. (lol) Beautiful buck joe. We'll have to get together in the next couple of weeks and tell some stories. I think mine grossed at 163 and probably netted 158 or so. They look so alike its crazy. Once again congrats and what a way to end an increcible season.
You'll have to head up or me down and do some fresh snow hikiing.

Thanks for the nice words NWHunter, my buddy didn't tag out and the weather we all hoped for never came. That is too bad the 3 point didn't hang it was a nice tall buck too. He might head back over and hunt the Swakane side if the weather gets good later this week though. I told him he is crazy not to because once the snow hits all of the 'new' deer will be in town!
-
awsome buck congrats!
-
Well-deserved and a couple really great field photos!! Well done, congrats.
-
One more on the ground... Great job :o
-
Did you wrestle him in the snow after you put a couple arrows in 'em? He looks a little soggy!! :chuckle: Awsome buck Joe!!!

Looks like some of the Monsters I have seen come out of the Frenchmans Creek area over in North Eastern Montana. Different kind of country from what is over there though, more coulees and sage brush. That area looks like some of the area I have hiked around Ross Lake and Goat Rocks area. My buddy shot a deer a tad bit smaller than that in the Foster Creek area last year. I have hunted with him over there and it was a real zoo. Not to my liking.
It is all work and a lot of fun no matter how you slice it..... Congratulations. What GMU was that? Love that high country.

There's great mass on that buck...beautiful. Congrats.
-
nice buck. I can't believe some people actualy found some decent bucks in the swakane this year. It was a ghost town where I was hunting. I saw 8 does one day and one legal buck the next, which I decided to shoot after the crappy results. Let us know what he scores officially after drying.

We need to get together and do some duck hunting or maybe even cat (that is assuming you'll take me with you). Anyway congrats again and little bit of luck never hurts anyone. :P

Damn, too late B - I already have it on the wall Eurostyle! A couple of beers and some peroxide and it looks good. If it was wider I would have done hair on the wall but mass looks against bone. Hope you are good.
