Title: Yakima River Deer Hunting
Post by: 270Shooter on December 01, 2008, 04:28:20 PM
I'm already planning for next year :tung:

I was curious what the hunting is like during modern firearm season by the Yakima River. Is it crowded or not many deer??? :dunno: I'm just looking for spots for next year. I was thinking maybe i could walk across the foot bridge at umtanum and get to a vantage point and glass from there. I know that it is steep country, but it looks like a good spot for deer hunting. Everytime i go through there i see deer.

Thanks Guys :hello:

I wouldn't say it is crawling with deer, but there are a few in there.

I guess I will have to check it out next year. I can't get much worse than the cowiche although I do think the deer population is increasing.

The night before mod. deer season opened, I saw three different group of guys glassing that area from the top. Might get a little crowed, but maybe worth it in the end.

They pound it pretty hard from Sheep company.  Always a big camp in by Russian Springs.

looks like big buck country but......:)  I have seen some in late winter but during hunting season I am sure that quickly changes.  Never know what you will find buried deep in one of those canyons holding tight :)

Yeah I figured I would have to work for one out there But those draws just look like good places for deer to bed in. I really like the open country hunting style, I really like spoting a deer and putting a stalk on it. Maybe I'll go out there for yotes later this year and look around.

Utilize an inflatable and cross over where no one in their right mind would and then hike high through the steep nasties until your looking down the barrel of a canyon.  Keep your vantage points and look in the steeps for bedding bucks.

If I lived in WA thats what I would do.

Bring GOOD! glass.

Are there any other place to cross besides umtanum? And one more question probably stupid but want to make sure. Is all of the land west of the river the Wildlife area?
