I drew Margaret Bull Archery. My hunting partner drew Margaret Cow Archery. We are very excited. We have both hunted the Lewis and Toutle drainages for many years. Neither one of us has ever set foot that far north. Now just where to start? Time to get the hiking boots warmed up! I guess this means I will have to buy the dog gone Weyerhaeuser permit.
-
See ya there. Drew one of them myself
-
Partner and I each have one also
-
Good luck, that's a fun hunt.
-
My wife drew a rifle cow tag, so she is pretty excited at the chance to fill the freezer. We have hunted the Winston for years, but we have never hunted in the Margaret. We will be planning on doing a little scouting this summer/fall when we head down to our place at CTTA. If any of you guys that drew bull tags want to exchange scouting notes, let me know.
-
Archery bull for me also
-
My hunting partner and I pulled that tag last year, two nice bulls to show for it. We also pulled Margaret archery cow tags this year. :yeah:
-
Drew modern bull. Live in area. Been putting in for over 20 years even before it was considered a bull elk hunt. Have drawn toutle bull 3 times and toutle cow 4 times but this one had me excited.
-
I got a modern bull myself and am on cloud 9... I better shell out the $ to Weyco before the high wears off.
-
I got an archery cow tag but I'm hoping to burn it on a bull before I shoot a cow.Good luck yall.
-
We got 2 of the 4 tags for Modern Firearm. I like that it's broken up into 2 hunts but I hope we're not locked out for the Sept 22-30 hunt for fire danger. I believe permits for that area go up on June 23. Can't wait!
-
Hopefully the weather gods will smile on you. I've hunted it a couple times with buddies and both times the Weyco land was closed after 2 days and 4 days due to fire danger. (still filled the tags though)

After looking closer, I got the modern general season tag.. will probably start a different thread.

Partner and I also drew Margaret archery. So did two of his buddies. I drove out today to get a rough idea of part of the unit. Google earth time!

If you have a permit, and there's fire danger, you can still go in. Just have to have shovel, fire extinguisher, and a axe I believe. Had pe ell pass last year and could get in when everything else was shut down
-
From reading the rules it sounds like Weyerhaeuser may not allow motorized access during extreme fire danger. But apparently walk in access will be allowed no matter what.

Not necessarily from what I understand. All private timberlands are required to use the DNR fire-danger system. This makes sense, since there could be problems if mixed/adjacent owners were all on different plans.
If it gets to level IV, it's shut down period. Landowners can set own rules on top of DNR. Hancock up my way shuts down to permit holder access almost every summer. Last year IIRC west of I-5 not much closed but east of I-5 most did. So Pe Ell was open because DNR level allowed it, and Weyco managers didn't see a reason to shut it down. That is not saying it can't happen any time.

I don't think those policies are in any way a guarantee that it won't close altogether. #9 could be interpreted that way, but it could also be interpreted as "Close" means closed period. I think if they think conditions warrant it, they continue to close too all public access. DNR fire levels will apply also.
#9:
"Access is 7 days a week from August 1, 2014 through January 31, 2015, provided that
Weyerhaeuser reserves the right to close or limit motorized access to the Property because of
extreme fire danger or other extreme weather conditions, including when undue damage may occur to roads."

I agree it could be interpreted that way. The wording doesn't make it 100% clear. I noticed that too, right after I made that post.
