Drew the latest cow modern tag, if anyone has hunted it before or drew this year, please PM me. I'm sure I can figure out something to send your way in return for any info.

I drew one of the raffles a couple of years ago. It was tough hunting because the snow was too deep and the elk never came out of the Refuge during my season in January. If your tag limits you to the CPWMA areas, then you are basically hoping to catch the elk crossing some farmers fields.

Start by looking at this link then contact the biologist for that area, they are usually good sources.

Hunted it three years ago. If you are close go to the refuge office chat up the staff and study the big photo of the refuge they have there in the office. I studied the photo and took notes on what looked like good areas then ran it by the staff. That paid of big time with a short hunt and lotsa meat.

Another thing is their hunting areas are "first come, first served" so I would get on the phone with CPWMA and reserve some hunting dates immediately. I don't think the Refuge is open to hunting with your tag, but you should try and figure that out sooner rather than later. PM me if you have any other questions.

This isn't a CPWMA hunt, it is on the actual Turnbull NWR. I drew a tag to hunt the SW section of the NWR from Nov 4-9.
I'll probably swing through in October on my way to MT but don't know if I'll get any other chance as it is 5 hrs from my house. The ground appears pretty flat and on initial look it sounds like a "they are there or not" type of late season hunt. It looks like the hunt area is maybe 6 miles by 8 or 10 with a bunch of water. Maybe I can find a vantage point somewhere.
