So after putting in for 9 years I finally got drawn for a special permit and it's a miracle. I applied with a buddy and we got drawn for this tag. If there is any body on here that is willing to share some information on where I can get on some good backcountry hunting in that would be awesome. This year is going to be awesome and I hope all you guys get drawn. Like I said I'm not looking for any honey holes but a place where I could go start scouting and hiking that would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Ron

People applying for units they've never stepped on :chuckle:
It's not a hard unit to scout. Burn some boot leather and good luck this year!

Ah yes it does, someone should tell him about the search button and the thread about if you need help in Peaches give me a shout. NO it's not me that is offering the help but there is a popular member on here always looking to help people out in Peaches.
Congratulations and good luck on your hunt.

I may have never been in that unit before but it's because I have never been drawn for the unit. I'm going to hike and scout my tail off. There is no doubt in my mind I will be there at least 6 weekends before opening day and I will be up there on August 27. Like I said I'm not looking for all these secret spots that guys have I'm only asking for help to get in a general area. If I could out fellow hunters locating elk in a special permit unit I would do the same. Thank you guys for the helpful information keep it coming I need a spot to scout next weekend. Wastickslinger I'm going to pm you when I get off work.

My Uncle drew this tag as well... cant wait!!

There's a fella on here that's usually more than happy to help people with a peaches tag. His tag name starts with an R. There's some good info on where to start

seen 5 bulls up there the other day. went along for a muzzy quility tag 2 years ago..................... all i can say is scout scout scout we went up every weekend up until it opend if u want a nice bull scout stay away from the roads...... u can drive up there and shoot a rag horn any day but if u put boots on the ground u will find some nice ones. theres some big boys of course we passed up one to many and came out with a 5 point but we got greedy to late in the season hahaha no matter what it was the best week of my life hearing all them bulls hahaha

Congratulations Ron, I too know the excitement!
I just checked the results an hour or so ago, and there it was!! I've been a life long hunter on the Colockum, but have friends very familiar with Peaches. Willing to pass along what I can.
Again, congratulations
Jim

the very west end of the unit will offer you some good back country hunting . if your willing to pack in you would have a ton of land to yourself .

:yeah: Coming from a guy with some first hand experience. I would put alot of weight in that information.

I did have the Peaches last year, but you must have met the other Brian and his daughter (since I don't have a daughter :chuckle:) It's going to be a much better year for Peaches tags due to no cow hunting in the unit this archery season

Hey There, Yes it was me with my Daughter. I bet that spike tasted good this past year. Brianmtsinc's 70+ year old Uncle drew the peaches tag so we are going work our tails off for him. He cant get too far from the road but that should not be a problem with that tag in the peaches with no cow hunting.
Hope you are doing well!
Good luck this season.

Ha ya I did mean the other Brian. Sorry about that. The no cow hunting will help out a bunch for sure.

Does anyone know who the Dept. Of Fish And Wildlife Game biologist is that is in charge of the Peaches Ridge area? If so could you post his/her info.. would like to call for information on counts and locations. For the rest this is also a great resource.
SC :hello:

I second third and fourth this. Do a search on peaches ridge. Look in the "elk hunting" section for a recent post started by Rt... He knows his stuff and is very helpful and kind in pointing people in the right direction.
Good luck and head far from roads. Put some cameras up and have fun

most guys will hike in for a couple of days then there legs or spirit will quit. If your able to spike in a couple miles your ahead of the game . being a lil crazy doesn't hurt either . If your doing a solo hunt i'd recommend partnering up with another tag holder . if its hot you will have to double time to get one out . get away from the campers and weekend warriors will increase your hunt ten fold . remember its not how far you can hike but how far can you pack an elk
-
I love the back country hunt an that's what the plan is to hike and spike camp. I actually drew the tag with a buddy so the plan is hunt all day hunt hard and camp where ever we are when the sun goes down. I plan on doing all the calling and filming for his hunt. I'm heading up this weekend to hike around one of the ridges and set up game cams then head back up the weekend after the 4th. I will be posting pictures and keeping you guys update on the progress. If anybody is up there I will driving a f250 white and blue with a white canopy.
-
Sounds like you are off to a great start. Best of luck to you!
-
So a quick update on the scouting we have only been twice twice but heading up again real soon. We did see elk both times but this time was pretty good. NO bulls but but enough cows and calfs to just know there is plenty bulls that roam that area. It is a awesome area and can't wait to get back up there and do some more exploring. I have a couple more areas to check out but already have a spot that I'm trying to get into on the opener. Also coachew both times we have been there we have seen hundreds of people I can only imagine how many people will be up there on Labor Day weekend.
-
I would drive to quartz mountain and drop off the back side a few miles with a bivey set up. You will be in elk if you find water.
-
I had this tag in 2010 for muzzy and have it this year for the general modern rifle. I will send you a PM.
-
Anybody hear how this turned out? I sent him a PM but haven't heard back.
