Post by: Special T on June 13, 2014, 08:14:01 AM
I saw an article that part of the WDFW land will be turned int o estuary  West of  the Sammish river south of the Bayview Edison RD. Anyone see the article in the Skagit Valley Herald that knows more?

So i Found out a little more info about this from a club member. There are a couple of things going on at this site.  There currently is no parking for this WDFW land. the gentlemen that owns the house just north of the road on the river also owns the 100ft or so that borders the road and the WDFW property. He charges $ to cross his property or park on it to access the WDFW land. Removal of the dike is not part of the plan so much as a change in the way its drained to provide waterfowl opportunity and hopefully fish parking. The opposition of this is suspect From what i understand... The For-mentioned Prop owner has a financial incentive, and there will be some reduction of farm-able land.

Just thought id update.

Some reduction of farmable land? you mean total reduction of farmable land and a waste of our taxpayer money, plant stumps and brushin a fieled, yeah that will bring the ducks, in. ???? You are correct there will be no dike removal, this is going to be a raptor and songbird style wildlife area with a happpy little trail around it to set your tripod on.   Sportsmen should be pissed about, it should be managed as a waterfowl HUNTING area, or surplused and sold to a farmer who would use it for crops.  :twocents:
