Title: Toyota w56-C 5speed 4x4 rebuild (1989 pickup deluxe) help
Post by: _TONY_ on June 16, 2014, 06:06:03 PM
Tranny finally went totally out and really need to get it back on the road before Aug 1st. I'm looking for some recommendations on shops, or individuals, that can do the tranny rebuild in my hunting rig, for a decent price. I'll even by the rebuild kit if that would help.

Or, if someone had a smooth shifting w56-c laying around that they'd be willing to sell, that would be even better

Thanks!
Tony

I've rebuilt quite a few Toyota manuals.  They are super easy.  Pull the front bearing retainer on the input shaft, and unbolt the center 'plate' from the case to see what you are looking at.  Its been a few years, but it seems like I was buying rebuild kits with Koyo bearings through the gear supplier to my Chevy dealership for about $100.  If there were hard parts that were bad, like a shaft or gear, it cost a little more.

I also have a tranny and t-case in the garage from an 88 4runner, not sure which one it is, I'd have to look.
