Has anyone ever hunted the quality elk tag for this unit? Just curious how many other people you saw hunting, since its close to the rez, I know there's only 5 tags for the rifle hunt. I'm crazy excited to hear elk talkin, out of all my years, I've never heard a bugle in the woods!!!

Did you draw the tag Kyle? What are the dates? Yes, I've spent some time there but the area has changed over the years.
-
yes, my brother and I both got quality tags for the hunt!!!!! :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
-
It's good. I live close to the area and there will be no pressure in there when you guys are there. Can you hunt the bottom by the river with the quality tag or do you need to be a master hunter?
-
River bottom is open for the tag
-
Had this permit 3 different times when it was a ten day hunt. Now it is only a five day hunt and that will make it a little tougher but still an easy bull hunt.
-
Xxl how many points did you have?
-
nine points as a group, it seems you can hunt the river bottom, its a short hunt, but it looks like theres a big number of elk in the unit, plus you can hope one of those big park bulls come walking over to say hi. Its gonna be a good hunt no matter what, I was just curious as to if anyone has experienced that hunt season and the amounts of people in the unit

I helped a guy who drew that tag a couple years ago butcher his elk on a river bar. They were bugling good and they were in them every day. I don't think you will have competition from tribal members, their season opens July 1st so they will have already been hunting for a while. It should just be the permit holders. The guy got a reasonable 5 x 5 but there was supposedly a 6 x 8 in there that he could have potentially got.

This tag has never been 10 days "AND" is in the prime of the rut. I drew the Peninsula tag the second year it was out. Great hunt that time of year. There are a couple of guids in Forks that told me with that tags they could guarantee a 370 class bull. Good chance for a bigger one I didn't have the money so I did it on my own, if you have the bucks get a local guide. Here is a picture of a Quinault bull. Her husband bow hunts that unit and hunted/scouted the archery season for his wife, she shot this one on the last evening of that season. She passed on other bulls.

We dont have the money for a guide and honestly wouldnt pay for that anyway, we put in our own legwork and hunt hard. Its gonna be a blast. Thanks for the info!!

It was ten days as an Advanced Hunter hunt, and was October 1 to 10.

I don't think that tribal hunting should be a problem for you. I'd plan to scout
ahead of time. A few years ago we had a quality tag near there, we never even saw
the other tag holder. If you don't already know I'd start figuring out which parts are
private land so you have that all squared away. Good luck, you definetly have an
Oppurtunity for a nice bull.
-
If someone guarantees you a 370 bull in Washington they are full of it. Especially on the peninsula.
Good luck on your hunt, I'm sure you'll have a good time.

It was a bull tag for anybody to apply and there used to be a master hunter tag there also and it was 10 days. I used to put in for the any body elk tag. This permit hunt only started when the quality elk hunts started and always has been 5 days long.

The "Quinault" bull permit was 10 days long for decades. It used to be 5 rifle permits for ten days during the early archery elk season. Then it was switched to the 1st of October through the tenth. Then in recent years it was shortened to 5 days and moved back to September.

Yes I know that, the statement was made that this tag was 10 days long. This tag is a different tag all together, Quality elk Prime rut in September with a gun, not a bull tag that was 10 days in OCT. Same name different tag/hunt.

Been on the early oct hunt 2 times. My experience was the bulls were pretty quite and when you got close they did not want to leave the herd at any cost. Hope you find a big guy in the river bottom.
That is a super area and your earlier date should be a plus.Good luck!

Buddy killed 320 bull with this tag said it was a great hunt bull is in bobs sporting goods on the wall good luck.

I was the guy who shot the reasonable 5 x5. Thanks again for the help. There were bulls bugling every day, mostly in the late evening. There were some big bulls in the park, including a 6 x8 and a giant 7 x7. They stayed on the safe side of the boundry...

We are very excited for this hunt. I'm working at getting in better shape, ends up I am really bad out of shape for a 31 year old... Hopefully we take a couple nice bulls, it will be hard not shooting a legal bull, I've only killed one bull in my life as well as my brother, but we're gonna try to hold out for a nice one at least the first day.
-
ONE MORE WEEK UNTIL WE LEAVE!!! Every year I get the same way, wake up at 3-4 am, can't fall back asleep because I keep picturing what I want to do, how I want to hunt, what I want to shoot. This year, its been so much worse!!! This will be a hunt of a lifetime, I'm sure. Pics to come!!!
-
Good luck! Keep us updated on how it goes.
-
Interesting, I was just looking at 6064 Quinault Valley on the GoHunt map. It seems like it might be a good general season spot to hunt, no special tag or permission needed?
-
MH only during general seasons.
-
Any updates on this hunt?
