So I am looking into hunting the elk heights/Ellensburge area. I've always hunted the western side and the last few years have come up dry and all my hunting areas are being developed. So I am looking at the eastern side. Specifically around Ellensburge or Cle Elum. Any ideas of areas and places to go? I'm not looking for anyone's honey holes(however if you want to tell me I won't stop you) I am just looking for good areas to go. I plan to take a couple scouting trips over before the season to get to know the area and find exactly where I want to hunt. Thanks in advance guys.

Deer numbers are extremely low. Since you're having to learn a new area anyway, I'd say go further east. Northeast or Southeast, doesn't matter, but just a couple hours further east will be well worth it. If you don't believe me, look at the harvest reports. The units from Ellensburg / Cle Elum to Yakima are the worst in the state. I would have said go north to Okanogan or Ferry counties, but apparently there are now more wolves up there than deer.

Any suggestions then?

GMU's 105-142, stay to the north if you prefer public land.

theres a few decent bucks around elk heights most of whom are on private . expect company and the mucks . the mucks like hunting it late . easy to jump on 18 and run over , during late archery they where in there shooting deer ( scary) :bdid:

That wouldn't be my first choice of a deer hunting area. What season are you hunting?

Modern season. I may take the longer drive and hunt Pullman area with a buddy.
