Title: Fish Finder Installation

I have been having issues with my Lowrance Unit, and they have kindly sent me a new one, which is havin the same issues, so they are now sending me another one. Would any of you be willing to pay me a visit and double check the wiring and stuff with me, as i am new to this whole game and not very knowledgable when it comes to electronics.... I live in Rainier so. Im sure i can dig up a few frosty beverages for your time..... :dunno: PM me please....

Post by: mainer78 on June 27, 2014, 09:09:48 AM: It turns on and works fine. Just loses bottom while trolling and have to restore defaults to get it to work. Also it automatically restarts itself frequently.

Post by: huntnphool on June 27, 2014, 09:13:16 AM: Sounds like it may be losing voltage or ground periodically. Inboard or outboard? Could you have poor battery/ground connections, or possibly a spiking alternator/generator.

Post by: gaddy on June 27, 2014, 01:33:42 PM: is it wired direct to the batt, both pos & ground ? I had suffered some interference on mine. I also insulated the finder wiring separately in its own loom. fixed my issues. the theory was that the wires laying against the aluminum hull were creating interference. same thing with the transducer wires. I isolated them all & ended my problems. just a thought.

It has to be mounted deeper than you would think and the bottom should be facing slightly forward. Make sure there are no bubbles from any thing. Any air on the transducer is bad. Mine stops working when either motor is run in reverse because of the air bubbles.

Transducer issue wouldn't cause it it reset by itself. ;)

Seriously though, I would hook it to it's own battery, with appropriate fuse, and see how it functions then. This way you can isolate noise/electrical issues and connector issues. :twocents:

It was an Elite 7 HDI..

It must have gotten knocked, and was only about 5 degree's out, but that was enough. Plus upping the ping speed and output helped....but only after fixing the transducer.

Post by: rasbo on June 29, 2014, 02:19:58 PM: lose nut behind the wheel,lol....double check your connections,be sure to have a 3amp fuse in place..you want the transducer plumb both ways as possible,as far from the prop as possible, on part of the flat of your boat bottom if that makes sense.mine sets 1/8th inch below the bottom of the hull,the directions should have clear a pic on the mount position.I mounted my own and its a pain just take your time,mine works awesome

It was an Elite 7 HDI..

That's a huge problem with the Elite series. Nothing major, but a pain in the butt to have to keep turning it back on.
